With Christmas coming and going, which can be a time to “tool up”, I was wondering “what is my favorite tool”… come a difficult moment a tool that correctly does the job can easily be escalated to the top of the list. But the tool that has surprised me most on its usefulness is my digital caliper. And that’s my No. 1. What’s your yours?!

More tools really,
Halfords professional socket set has taken apart so many bikes and put them all back together that it’s paid for itself many times over

Yes… I do like my Halford professional stuff too. I am reminded of a xmas some 39 years ago when I trotted down the park in my brand new tracksuit and football boots… and my best mate said “all the gear and no idea” (or an 8 year olds’ equivalent). Obviously scarred me as still remember it now!

For those difficult interior trim fasteners?

Mine is my impact wrench, bought a few months ago and only used a few times so the novelty hasn't worn off yet.

Few that I do enjoy using, such as my impact wrench, piston pushing thing, lock wire pliers, tap/die set, etc, but most useful has probably been my Abba Stand with the front lift attachment.

To start with I was going through all the very specific tools I own wondering which I enjoy using most, or if any are very clever in design, but reading this thread has made me realise, as a few have said, I’ll have to nominate my halfords tool kit, it’s a 150pc set I both over 20 years ago, it’s done so many jobs on cars and bike over the years, it’s lifetime guarantee means on the odd occasion I’ve broken something, I just walk in and get a direct replacement.

Mine is my 3/8" battery ratchet, although I've not had to use it on trim fasteners yet hehe

Favourite bike / car tool is this spanner, as it is nice and thin.
My dad gave me this nearly 50 years ago, it came from his 1955 Triumph T110 tool kit. I used it on my BSA B25ss head bolts. I now use it on the Essex V6 Webber carb bolts.

Favourite car tool, is this for Mk3 Cortina front suspension.
I had to make the upper one as i couldn't get hold of the real lower Churchill one at the time.

My lock knife

If I'm wearing my work jeans, it's on me

It opens fast and one handed which is invaluable to me on a daily basis, just used to spread some gripfill as it had instantly skinned over

VED electricians screwdriver set with pliers & side cutters. Insulated handles are a godsend for those of us who are hamfisted - I have survived more electric shocks than I care to remember.....

Favourite tool for my bike is a really nice mini socket set from Halfords, including every torxe bit you'll ever need to tackle KTM self-loosening 'fasteners'

My magnet on a stick. Invaluable for when you've dropped something somewhere you can't get your hands into. My Machine Mart one even has an LED light on the other end which is genius.
