Just a warning to those planning to head out on their bikes for the normal bank holiday meet ups, be very, very careful, I live on the South Coast in East Sussex and the roads are atrocious, potholes everywhere and they are deep, absolutely lethal for bikers, especially those unfamiliar with the roads and riding too quickly to make the necessary adjustments. They're on straights, corner apexes, corner exits, literally everywhere.

We always have a few serious accidents/fatalities each year but I suspect potholes could cause far more than normal, be careful out there!

What about when it's not a bank holiday, are they safe then? wink

I'll second that!
I went for a ride via Goudhurst last Sunday as recommended by Grayson Perry a while back - the A21 was OK, as was the A262, but some of the lesser B roads were utterly appalling - like a moonscape you might expect in parts of the third world.
My 2p worth: keep a good distance from the vehicle in front so you increase your chances of seeing the pothole before you hit it.
If you bend your front wheel, it can be VERY expensive to fix/replace...

Obviously not, but the May bank holiday tends to see some bikers out for the first time in the year and some new, inexperienced bikers riding too quickly.

Thanks for your comment though, hopefully others won't see the need to state the bleeding obvious. wink

I'm jealous of every one of you riding over the next few months.

In a similar vein...
Devon and Somerset police are doing a "bike safety week" across the Easter weekend, which I would guess means they will targeting speeding, noise and generally checking up on two wheel shenanigans

Since this thread is descending into oblivion already...

OP you might need to repeat the warning a few times, the May bank holiday is a few weeks away yet tongue out

Good spot, not in my original post but later on I did mention the May BH, apologies, I did mean this weekend, which is also a bank holiday, not to say that bikers shouldn't take care every weekend etc etc and that potholes are everywhere etc etc ...... wink

Devon & Cornwall police?

Their Police & Crime Commissioner wears the Road Safety hat for Police & Crime Commissioners. They're mates with that former Northants. Police & Crime Commissioner who failed to keep their mouth shut about a supposed investigation into an MP a few years ago. Northants. is where Darren Stockdale the Dashcam peddler, philanthropist and where he was Special Constable who was promoting people using off the shelf technology to inform on speeders is from.

The Police & Crime Commissioner for Devon & Cornwall has held training sessions to educate councillors on how to use dashcams to inform on drivers.

Devon & Cornwall police have announced they're going to use drones to target motorcyclists.

Using drones to target motorcyclists reminded me of Derbys. police using drones to spy on people breaking the Covid lockdown by going for a walk in the Peak District.

I went out to the Cotswolds - a lot of cars, maybe 20 bikes in 3 hours

I missed a sunken drain cover as I was looking to overtake - bounced me off the pegs / seat !

That was a new experience
