Is anyone else finding this to be the case?

I live in a relatively built-up area where you'd expect at least a couple of local motorcycle garages but there are practically none. My local garage / tyre fitter where we take the cheap car for tests usually also do bike MOTs but they're impossible to book in with nowadays - unreachable by phone and in person usually say they're fully booked or don't know when they can schedule a bike in.

The next nearest place was a motorcycle parts store with a workshop, they closed down last year due to lack of business.

The next option is a main Triumph dealer with a workshop where I get services done, but it's 45 minutes away and the workshop is closed on weekends laugh

It's becoming a right pain in the arse for something that's supposed to be a pretty simple annual formality rolleyes

Same with tyre fitters and numberplates.

Becomes a real ahole to get either sorted out. Even Halfords want you to wait a few days when ordering a bloody plate.

Where are you ? I have a bike station in south london.

This time of year is the peak time for MOT's on bikes. Wont ever have a problem doing one in December or January.

I see you are in the West Midlands OP ... surely there is somewhere in Brum or nearby you can go to?

Googling 'motorcycle MOT Birmingham' gives quite a lot of results. Surely one of those would be local to you?

Well everybody should know when their car or bike MOT expires, (The Government will even text you a reminder), so the answer is book a slot a couple of months in advance I suppose. smile

Yep your location would be useful.

We have 3 or 4 within my town (Kidderminster) but I know that might not be the norm.

Walsall, West Midlands..

I looked at the document of approved places from the .Gov website, there's about 10 listed 'locally' to me and more than half don't even exist anymore laugh

I found a place local but he wouldn't book it in advance, he just said "phone when you want it done and I'll try to do it the same day"

It's more of a ballache with bikes because not only are the garages more spread out, it's the rigmarole of gearing up to get the bike there and either arranging transport back and forth, or waiting around for ages in bike gear, both are annoying when you work in the week and that's the only time they're open laugh

No issues round Leeds. Ring up and get an appointment for pretty much when I want it.

Tyres needed some notice as they had to order the size and model I wanted. Some models they had no stock.

Numberplates, just go to the local motorfactors and it was done straight away.

No probs here in little old Clevedon, at least 2 places for bike MOT. As for plates, there is a 5 min wait in the car spares shop.

I miss the days when there was basically a guaranteed little backstreet bike garage within walking distance you could just drop off and and pick up a few hours later.. They all seem to have closed :/

I refuse to play the silly number plate game - this stupid bureaucracy around them doesn’t inconvenience fraudsters or terrorists - it’s just a pain in the arse for normal people.

Just order online from one of the places online who are based in the Channel Islands or even Scotland. They’re delivered in two days. And cheaper.

I'm in S London and often need things done on my bike, always looking for a decent garage

That's who I used to use all the time years ago as they're only down the road but they've closed apparently frown

You've got Frank Dunstall nearby for general stuff. Not fancy, but that's usually a plus in my book.

Rural Leics. I called the local bike/MOT shop on Tuesday to book and got both done the next day however, there is just the one remaining local bike shop that does MOTs so maybe more tricky at busy times.

Yes, it's a real pain in Aberdeen. My go too place is packed out of the door, and currently booking work a month on advance - there's precious little outlet elsewhere, either, and they've said that it'll only get busier as the season comes in.

Thankfully I've had everything sorted well in advance but if I had left it I'd have been stuffed.
