If your willing to splash out a bit of cash theres a company called Emtech that produce individual moulded ear plugs that block out loud noise but you can still hear speach etc. with.

I have had a set made from work and use them on my bike too. very comfy and not as disorientating as half a camping mat stuck in your ear canal!
