Protect yourself at all times

Hi all

I know it's really hot and looks like it's going to be hot for the next load of summers thanks to global warming.

Please though wear protective clothing. I've seen so many riders in shorts and T shirts recently. I understand that you're really uncomfortable in this weather but surely it's better to be sweaty than not having any skin left? I of course don't know if there's some sort of biker gear allows air in while you ride. If there is then buy this if you don't already have it.

I know this applies to the small majority as most of you wear the correct clothes. End of the day it isn't my life that will be ruined if you fall off and you become a flesh monster.

If you know someone who's riding in their beach wear then have a word. Accidents happen and all it takes is one of us car people to not see you (happens far too often as we know) and that's it.

Ride safely and look out for one another.

What about road cyclists in just a smattering of Lycra, are they ok? 40-50 mph is quite common on a road bike descent, but if you suggested they wear full leathers I don't think you'd get much agreement. Yet if I pop to the shops on a motorbike without leaving the 30 zone in a t shirt everyone loses their mind.

If someone came up to me and said “ excuse me do you mind not riding in shorts because it’s going to hurt if you fall off “. I’d tell them to fk off and mind their own business. I’m an adult and I can make my own decisions. Do you go up to smokers and tell them they should stop as it’s potentially bad for their health too ? Or really fat people and tell them they are at risk of diabetes and heart disease. ?

Mind your own business and let people get on with their own lives .

I rode bikes for decades and never fell off once, but I can't remember how many times a mental midget in a car knocked me off.

Riding a bike in flip flops is quite hard ( gear change ). But crocs are fine……..mmmm feel that breeze between your toes.

A quick anecdote. I was in a&e recently.unrelated to any biking incident. Rode there on my bike
I am called in to see the triage nurse and as i sit down she asks me if my jeans are armoured.i say no they are just normal.
The next words out of her mouth

Did you know you could deglove your penis.

I fully understand it is your choice but certainly something to think about

On a similar note -
I was disappointed there wasn't the annual 'cars could be quicker than bikes round the TT' thread which normally appears the last week of may.

I’ll use that with HMRC if ever quizzed about my bike gear/PPE..… ‘I need these garments so as not to risk degloving my penis’!
