I'm heading there tomorrow but haven't pre-booked parking. Any recommendations? I'll be taking the car rather than on the bike.

I was there a few years ago when it was cancelled. Wouldn’t surprise me if the sprint race gets called off if this worsens.

Ever since the track was resurfaced, twice, the standing water at Silverstone has been atrocious.

It seems a feature of the tarmac in use on new public roads too.

Whoever re-surfaced Donington did a good job. The WSBK guys were raving about the wet grip.

The grip is very high at Silverstone in the wet, the issue is the standing water, you go from high grip to zero because the surface isn't draining and you have aquaplaning. It's the worst combination you can get.

If you don't have any standing water it's fine.

Exactly, Donington Park is up and down Silverstone is a flat old airfield. The crashes for Oliveira and Digi? where the back just came round were not good omens for racing later.

Before they resurfaced it, it wasn't bad for standing water. The new tarmac they used is very poor for water drainage and has changed the track significantly. You will probably recall the first resurface, where this became apparent, the second attempt didn't improve it, so it seems they are stuck with this for many years now, which has made the circuit far less likely to be able to run properly wet races.

That’s a drainage issue though and the old airfield circuits will always struggle compared to the old parks for drainage. It is piss poor though that it struggles to cope with a lot of water and more should have been done to correct this.

As i said, it was a new problem introduced when they resurfaced.

Hopefully we have seen the worst of it for the weekend now.
