Michelin power 6 tyre marking question

I have decided to try a new make of tyre on my diavel. After 10 years have decided to change from pirelli to mitchelin.
Question. What are those shallow rectangles on the tyres for? Any one know?

Pretty styling by the looks - granted they may be very small water channels when you're leaned over, but unlikely to do much

I wondered if helps you work out how much your tyres are squaring off? Going going gone mark?...


Edit: having had a look at the Michelin site they are way off centre so not that.. can’t seeing them adding any benefit at all given how shallow they are..
