Having a Dave day,

Planned ride from the Ace cafe all the way up to Barrow in Furness with multiple joining points on route.

Anybody else joining this, planning to join somewhere near junction 36 of the M6 but not ride all the way into Barrow or may just find a suitable vantage point and watch it roll past.

Looks like its going to be an epic ride out by all accounts.

Looks a bit hard for people north of Barrow to join in, which is a shame. A run down from Cairn Lodge would seem appropriate.

Isn´t "Dave Day" the event where you have to tie a lamp to a broomstick
and shine inside a partially blocked Nazi tunnel ?

As a Cumbrian lad it'll be a good ride out hopefully. There's a few of us meeting the Scottish and North East contingent at Southwaite service station (M6) to mosey on down to J36 (Ambio Cafe) and then onwards to Barrow.

It's certainly gathering momentum on FB and if all interested show face, it could well be into 10k bikes plus.

Ooh. it's my birthday smile What's a Dave Day?

If all goes to plan I should have just finished the OG bike trip to the French Pyrenees and be en-route to the Czech Republic for an Indian motorcycle fest thingy in Budweis.

Basically a memorial to Dave the hairy biker.

I’d quite like to do it,he genuinely seemed like a lovely guy and the world needs more people like Dave, but given the momentum the event is developing there might easily be over 10K bikes and arriving in barrow will be absolute carnage; I might just donate or buy the latest book,or I’m tempted to just take a trip out and watch from a safe distance.

The closest thing I’ve done is probably be ace cafe’s Brighton burn up which was ok, but a bit chaotic filtering with so many bikes at times and some cheeky behaviour on show; jury is still out for me..

I think it's going to be absolutely massive. It could be chaos once everyone starts funnelling onto the A590 but I expect the police will have it in hand.
The only thing I've ever been on of that scale was the MAG/FEMA Eurodemo in 1996 which went into Brussels, but I think I'd rather be on the outside this time watching the event rather than stuck in the middle hoping the bike doesn't boil over wink
Either way I'll be donating a few quid to the charity.

Boy, what a day Dave Day was! cool

Posted this due to just seeing the BBC news item and interview with Si King. 46 000 bikes on the roads albeit not all did, or indeed could, land in Barrow town centre. eek

The comradeship was amazing as was the welcome from all lining the streets. A very special day that my wife, other mates and me thoroughly enjoyed.smile

I was driving up the M6 on Saturday and it was fantastic to see so many bikes out and more importantly how good natured the whole thing was.

Knutsford services was absolutely ram packed with all types of bikes and everyone was just having a great time.

What a day! So well behaved, so unchaotic, a fantastic, warm welcome from the people of Cumbria, a great gig at the rugby ground. The police and marshals did the best job of keeping us moving and safe. Cumbria police said an extra 20000 people stayed in town and partied and there was not a single arrest! I rode up from the Birmingham RV and there were people on EVERY SINGLE BRIDGE, waving and cheering. I don't think I've ever been on a mass ride with so few egos on display - even RTTW.. Hardly anyone bouncing off the rev limiter, very few stupid overtakes on the A590 from the M6 to Barrow. It was just a beautiful celebration of motorcycling and a lovely fella. I smiled (and cried) for mile after mile after mile. And the sun shone over Barrow as we partied into the night. Local people opened their homes and gardens for us to crash in and everyone was smiling. fking fabulous day!

Amen to that brother......EVERY single word.

Now that we have photos to represent the magnitude of the day, it's finally coming home how huge the day was: being in the midst of a convoy doesn't quite capture it!

That's pretty crazy. I usually filter up the middle of traffic, but when the traffic is bikes, you're kinda stuck.

Plus how did Barrow cope with 10,000+ extra people? I'd have had to stayed somewhere rather do the return trip (to Surrey) in one day.

If this becomes an annual thing I might well get sorted for next year, but generally I don't do group rides or things like this

Went up to Burton services. It was pretty rammed an hour before the main group was due in, and pretty much gridlocked when they did. From what I could work out they were still queuing to get into the services half an hour after the lead group left. Was a fantastic tribute.

Joined this myself at Burton In Kendal services.

Got the half hour early expecting a few people mulling around already and was staggered to see the place absolutely rammed. With more arriving by the second.

Followed the ride from here down the 590 and pulled over at the petrol station at Newby Bridge to watch the ride past, we stood there for over an hour with a constant stream of bikes coming past us, we left the services to head home at 4.15 pm and rode back up the 590 towards the motorway to witness thousands of bikes still heading in towards Barrow.

The ride, the bikes, the people standing on bridges, grass verges etc, etc.
Made for a remarkable day, one that we may never witness again and the biker community should be proud of what a day it became, the people who came out to wave and the people of Barrow - I applaud as they made the day something special as well.
