Just spotted one of my fork seals is a little bit weepy, not surprise as the bike is old and gets used in all weathers.
just a general question, what do year round riders/ decent mileage commuters use these days to protect the forks? used to be fork gaiters back in the day and i just give them a spray with wd40 or whatever once a week through the winter if i remember
i was looking at an cb500x the other day and noticed the chrome was looking pretty knackered, maybe a quality thing or just never been sprayed with anything oily. anyway.... tell me what works for you!

I STILL use fork gaiters on my 2006 CBF500 ABS. Protects them perfectly.

I'm currently looking at what I can get for USD forks on my V Strom. In the meantime I've used Autoglym spray on ceramic spray

My advice - just keep them clean and dry. The problem with gaitors, shrink wrap or anything else that covers them is that they don't stop 100% of the grime getting past.

The grime then has no where to go, you don't realise it is in there and then the stanchions start to pit/score .

I always though why do they have these upside down forks. Even all the offroad motocross stuff has it.
Eventually I decided the fact its upside down means particles may go down and out rather than down and in.

Some people (generally off road) use neoprene gaitors

Personally I'd rather see them and clean them

The seal saver scrapers work well

I use neoprene sleeves like these https://www.24mx.co.uk/product/acerbis-neoprene-fo...

The bike doesn't have long travel MX suspension, so I cut one sleeve and used half on each leg. I check and clean underneath the sleeve before and after winter and not had any issues.
