my biking days are already over

Well I am back out of hospital where i have been for the last 2 weeks. It’s not a pleasant place by hats off to all the nurses that were looking after me during my stay. To bring you all up to speed i was involved in a RTA on the A2 on Wednesday 14th around 7:30 in the morning. I heard that the road was closed for a few hours because of it.
For though that know the road i was in the inside lane to turn off at the Danson Interchange (London bound) in the middle lane there was a large red transit and (from what the witnesses say) there was another biker in the outside lane. I was travelling around 45mph and was about 1/4 mile from the turn off, from what the report says the biker went from the outside lane, cut across the van and rode into my path. I can't remember seeing the other biker and i didn't feel the impact, landing or anything else. Apparently i T-Boned the biker as he was at a 90 degree angle to the road and the police still can't work out what he was doing.
I was awoken to find that a nurse, doctor and army field medic were already at the scene as they were on their way into London. I was out for about 5 mins. I don't really remember much from that morning as i was sucking on pain-killing gas that kept putting me out.
Both bones in my right leg, just above the ankle were broken. The medics were happy that i was fully kitted up otherwise i might have lost my leg (from excessive blood loss and the bone snapping all the way through the skin) the bone only pinched through the skin as the boots and leathers were tight and were keeping pressure around the area to reduce blood flow.
My right arm above the wrist was also broken and both of the bones were cleanly broken.
Ultimately my repairs ended up with a rod in my leg and the bones screwed to this and there are now plates in my arms and pins all holding it in place.
The other guy was unfortunate to loose his foot and fracture his pelvis in 2 places.
Its going to take me around 3 more weeks before i am allowed to put weight on my leg (if it has been heeling correctly) and around 3 months before i can walk properly. The docs have given me about 12 months before i have full use of my limbs though.
So because of this i am now no longer going to be on a bike; the A+E medics used the term miracle that i didn't have worst injuries or that i actually made it to the Hospital (which what brings it home as to how lucky i was) Its a shame that this has happened as i loved biking, the sense of freedom and involvement at you take the bike down to your knee or the rush as you open up that throttle. but i can't take that chance anymore, i'm still young and have a great future to still look forward to. I'd like to start a family soon and the wife went through so much whilst i was in the hospital that it would be unfair on her if i was to go though this all again (if i am that lucky). I'll still wave and nod and move over for you bikers and i hope that you all have many years of happy biking, but for this guy the leathers have finally been hung up.

thanks for all your thoughts. I spoke to work this morning and they said that i up to 6 months to recover and that there isn't a rush to get back. If im not able to get back to work in 6months they will review the situation, how great it that!
Its correct that its the section of the A2 that is covered with scamera. The accident took place about 1/2 mile from one, so it goes to show how good they are with reducing accidents.
I now have to start looking for a car as bikes are a no-no. Can i get a 911 for around £25K?
