This years insurance seems mad!
Discussion
Just had my renewal through: up from £580 for last year to £920 this year with Bennetts - another year older, another year of NCD, no claims/points etc. and no change in circumstances with address, work, or the bike itself etc.
Yet going through both compare websites and providers own websites this renewal offer still looks like the best available with the closest other one being £1186 (bar one for £440 but compulsory excess of £1500!), most are hitting the £1400 region.
I've got until 1st Feb to get it renewed so I'll keep looking around, but I suspect I'm going to just have to suck it up and pay the renewal price since I rely on it for commuting!

What’s the excess on the £920 policy?Yet going through both compare websites and providers own websites this renewal offer still looks like the best available with the closest other one being £1186 (bar one for £440 but compulsory excess of £1500!), most are hitting the £1400 region.

A by product of Zurich (iirc?) pulling out of the underwriting game.
Exactly the same happened for me last year. My renewal pretty much doubled overnight.
Even looking at ‘lesser’ bikes to what I had at the time as a comparison, the quotes were still coming out way more expensive than the bike I had.
When I changed bike at the back end of last year I could only get insured on it if i fitted a tracker.

Its only a £175 compulsory and no voluntary; changing the voluntary doesnt seem to influence the price with Bennetts. With other quotes I've looked at adding a £500 voluntary excess ontop of the mandatory (normally stated as either £250 or £500) has only dropped the price by an average of £100.May give them a call to speak to a human when I get a chance, see if tweaking the excess on the renewal or fitting a tracker would drop it significantly at all (its already datatagged and has thatcham approved locks etc.). Only thing going against me is no garage, but its parked in a secured back garden with ground anchor front and rear.
Bloody annoying, but given the increases in everything the last year or so, hardly suprising that the insurance racket is getting in on the action too!
EDIT - Just done a quote through bennetts for it being garaged - drops it down to a slightly more reasonable £660 - and it looks like they count a locked wooden shed with concrete floor as a garage - so may be the case I clean all the crap out of the shed and repurpose it

My Bennett's insurance went up a lot for my Bonnie last October.
Straight onto the comparison sites and shock, their renewal was the best offer.
I called them, had a chat and the new premium was dropped to 2/3 of my previous year's price.
As I remember, the value was far too high and I increased my excess.

Can you all please keep quiet so I can live in blissful ignorance until the end of April when mine renews?
Bikesure won't touch any bike around here above 5k unless it's garaged and Bennets quadrupled any quote when I ticked the aftermarket suspension box.
Lexham were the only (relatively) sensible option last year at about £700 for 10k pa, ungaraged/no security, Nitron shock declared, Commuting.
A number of bikes have been lifted in this road in recent years and it's absolutely screwed anything of value.

Oh that's interesting. Was planning on upgrading the rear shock on my NC750 to a nitron but didn't think about the insurance implication. I've just renewed and it went down by nearly 100 quid to just over £250. The super adventure renewal is in March and I got a very good deal on that last year so no doubt it will go up.
Lexham didn't charge anymore for the Nitron shock to be noted on the policy. They did want another £75 (roughly £60 of that was "admin" fees) for it to be covered like for like though so I'll do it at renewal time....
They basically said it wasn't "performance enhancing" in respect of power so they don't care.
Bennets can suck a dick with their pricing. Banging on about modifications and exhausts but wanted 2k due to an oem shock not dealing with my weight....
My CBF500 is TPFT, Business use, 5k pa, YSS shock and lots of fork upgrades and £130 per year.....

The big difference to me was the price of the bike.
£1.5 k runaround’s to new GS’s for some odd reason puts the price up a fair whack

I’m still quids in because of my age and postcode which is probably the biggest factor.
Speaking of age, I’m now 70, is this liable to make any difference? So I won’t get a shock come March.
sadly the bike insurance market has been hit very hard over the last few years with the number of thefts, fast food delivery drivers and fraudulent claims. i am finding many of my frineds have given up on biking so the number of clients paying into the insurance POT is getting smaller, claims costs are rising - parts, labour, ambulance chasing srotums sorry solicitors hence bigger premiums all round. plus adding in all the FCA compliance and Fair Pricing strategy all effects the rate
i have been very lucky with my bikes but i do have to sleep with my broker.......
