So, having never even popped a leg over an MX bike I'm off to try it on Sunday.

Anyone done one, any tips ?

We done the KTM experience for a mates stag do, his now wife wasn’t too pleased when I told her what we were doing the week before the wedding!

There were about 12 of us, some road riders and some that had never ridden before, we all had an amazing day and came away completely knackered with plenty of laughs.
I came away and gave up track riding and took up enduro (not quite brave enough for MX) really enjoy riding off road now and it’s a damn sight cheaper than TD’s!

Be prepared for browsing eBay when you get home….

I did the Mick Extance day in mid Wales a few years back on a KTM and really enjoyed it. Just make sure your fitness is good and take a few energy bars.

I’ll be interested to see how you get on.

I fancy doing something like this, possibly the Yamaha or Ducati ones.

I did the Ady Smith KTM one in April 2019 at the North Wales venue. It was a 10/10 day.

Tips??

Take care of your knees and book a sports massage for two days after biggrin

Seriously, wear knee braces, it's very easy to hook a knee and twist it.

Enjoy and report back

I did one with a few off here some years ago (Fleegle, Mitzy, Fats25, Smack and some other names from the past!).

It's good fun and you will get knackered, but the bikes are governed to f..... on the throttle. Saying that you can still get some decent air time and get confident enough that if you mess up a jump you'll be very worried about the landing.

Worth it, but if you've done some off roading and had a KTM enduro or any decently powerful off roader, a governed 250 Yam was a little disappointing.

Other than that it's a blast just to ride an MX track if you've not before, which I hadn't. Good luck!

I’m sure I did one at Golding Barn, Sussex but years ago .
Great fun on WR kit , some good training and tips all day - of course we forgot to pace ourselves over the day and didn’t eat or drink properly, suffice to say stairs were not my friend for 2- 3 days after

So to close the loop.

Firstly thanks for the general tips, all appreciated.

So all in all the Yamaha Experience team did a cracking job running a thoroughly enjoyable event, the track at Hobs Hole nr Walsall was quite good fun and we ran multiple layouts through the day as they extended the track to allow for more variety and bigger / different challenges.

The bikes were all well prepped, had 2 modes, stupid and really stupid with the throttle basically an on off switch.

Had a few tumbles with one particularly funny one that saw me lose control of the bike on an open throttle and actually use a berm as a ramp and fly through the air before landing in a hedge, both the bike and I needed lifting out, wasn't until I stood up I realised I did it at the corner right in front of the gazebo and viewing area !!!!

As predicted by others I was shattered after, have hardly been able to lift my arms over my head and my knees ache, but all in all not too bad.

I have discovered that I have no talent for this MX malarkey, so not much differnt to my other 2 wheeled endeavours really.

So although I wouldn't do it again I would 100% recommend the Yahama Experience, it really was a good day out, but my evident lack of talent and the inherent risks that being airborne bring, makes it a future no from me.

That’s a WR for you, I’d imagine you was on a 250?

A mate had a WR 450 and it was ridiculous, quite a common complaint is the mapping. I followed another mate on it for his first time and it’s quite possibly my funniest biking memory as he was all over the place on it!
