I'm going to pick up a DJI Osmo Action 4 soon as it's being phased out in favour of the 5, so what was once a £400+ camera can be had for <£200 now.
It'll be used for a lot of things including MTBing and Youtube vids, including a bit of moto vlogging.
Has anyone got one and can talk through their setup?

So I’ve started posting bike videos on YouTube, not necessarily motovlog but my most recent upload is a ride out video.

I bought the osmo action 3 outdoor combo when it was circa £160 6 months ago, the camera is excellent and came with extra batteries and mounts. I don’t think there’s a massive difference between the 4 and the 5 but one regret I have is you really need an external mic for good audio but with the 3 you have to plug in the DJI receiver to the usb c port whereas the 4 and 5 let you connect directly to a microphone transmitter wirelessly which is a lot less hassle and maintains the waterproofing.

It’s nowhere near professional by any means but I tried the helmet mount and didn’t like it, previously tried the chest mount but when you tuck in to the tank it blocks the whole view. I’m currently messing around with quad lock mounts in and around the clip ons, the POV isn’t as interesting but I like that the cameras not attached to me.

The mic I got was the DJI mic mini Tx and Rx, the audio is a big improvement over the built in mic but it still struggles with wind noise at higher speeds. I keep the mic in my pocket with the wind sock on and with it also wrapped in a microfibre to reduce the Db somewhat.

I tried it once, but I hate video editing with a passion. And good editing makes a video IMHO.

This ^^

I'd suggest most amateur videos should be cut by half or more

That said I'm amazed what some do produce

I record while riding a couple of times a week but won't be much use – I've been a GoPro user forever. They used to be unreliable annoying POS, but they turned a corner with the 12 in terms of reliability (no more having to pull the battery to reset it, no corrupt footage etc), and I use them for about 3 vids/week and have done for 2 years.

I was tempted to switch to DJI, but I don't like the method for running a 3.5mm lav mic into them (adapters, wide-open side door). If they can build a 3.5mm port into them and also get the same nice dynamic range as GoPro, I'll switch. I don't really like the idea of using the wireless mic – I don't know where I'd mount it in my lid, and it's another point of failure when shooting having a battery in it.

I imagine DJI will tempt me away with the next revision or two – they do advance at a decent rate whereas GoPro may as well be asleep.

Just my two penneth!

Same here, I just don't have enough interest in editing to master it where it becomes easy.

I tried a few times around 6-7 years ago. I presume the software is easier to use now so I may give it another try ...

I've got an Insta360 X3 and DJI Mini Pro 4 for a trip to Ireland soon. Not going to vlog as such just take some videos for social media that will be better than taking snaps. Currently working out a good but cheap method to get the bike sound to the camera instead of wind noise, tried a Bluetooth mic but it was godawful.

Going to try the camera mic adapter with a wired Purple Panda mic they say is good for that purpose, going to be annoying having a wire but I don't want to spend £100+ on a decent wireless one.

Been a learning curve seeing what works and what doesn't with the drone. Waypoint mode to capture me in motion is extremely difficult to keep myself in the shot and the drone can only go 20mph or so, will go for more long shots I guess so I don't have to worry about being in the frame. The tracking mode works quite well following me around on the bike but quite limited where I can use this, bad idea to try that on a public road when I can't easily steer it out of the way of traffic. The far reaches of Ireland look pretty quiet and open so I'm hoping I have a lot of freedom with the drone.

360 camera being able to look at me, or what's in front, or something I'm going past in the the editing is really nice. Attaching it to the handlebars and extending the stick sideways gives a good shot but have to remember not to smash it on passing objects.

From my research, you have to be careful with 3.5 jack mics. It must have a TRS connection, not TRRS. Purple Panda is TRRS so you'll need a TRRS to TRS adaptor plugged into a USB C to 3.5mm jack cable assuming it's like the Action 4.
I'm waiting for another deal at £240 for the Action 4 Adventure combo which I missed in Feb, but that's an absolute steal for that price.

This is something i thought would be fun to get into. Bought an Insta360 X4 adventure bundle the other day from Costco for £360 which is on offer until the middle of April i think (and then a handlebar mount off Amazon). Just need to figure out the whole editing thing now!

Username Kate uses the Osmo Action 4 I think. She seems to rate it. Go Pro's monopoly on the action camera market is fading with the Insta and DJI competitors rapidly catching up, or overtaking them.

It seemed to capture the crash pretty well at the new Speed Triple launch.
