My youngest has really got the bug for coming pillion on the road now, she asks every day. Used to only take her pillion on the dirt, but now she wants to go longer trips on the road. She enjoys the short run to school. She has mx gear which she wears on her quad, but ordered up some road gear because of the different risks, frank thomas armoured jacket and leather trousers.

She has a really nice pair of thor MX boots in size 1, and I have good MX boots in all the graduating bigger sizes left over from her older sister, who done a good job of keeping her gear nice as she rapidly outgrown it to the point where she is bigger than her mum at 13.

Any downsides safety wise for a pillion to wear mx boots on the road? To the best of my knowledge they offer more protection not less, at the cost of dexterity on a bike not designed around them.

Other than possibly scratching or scuffing paintwork/brightwork if they have metal bits on them, i cant see a problem.
When i gave up MX, i used my old SIDI boots for many years but that was as the rider.

I tried my mx boots on my pan, couldnt change gear as the boots hit the fairing.
Good point on the potential to damage the cosmetics on the bike but to be honest i look at a bike as a tool to be used hard in all weathers and put away wet, past caring how stuff looks.

For a passenger nope, no downside.
