So, my small collection of 250/400, 80s/90s two-stroke & four-stroke bikes have been joined today by a new bigger brother.... FZR750R OW01.

It's a bike I've always loved but never thought I would buy as the prices have gone crazy. However, I've managed to pick one up without having to sell a kidney or two. She is in decent factory condition but needs a refresh to look her best, which will be done.

The one thing that I like is OEM fairings on my bikes. Looking at the ones on this I'm torn as to whether they're original or not as they're not the usual Yamaha OEM thickness and finish on the inside. I can imagine as a homologation bike, the fairing may be light weight, hence the difference, or they could just be some cheap crap. biggrin

Can anyone please enlighten me as to whether the inside surface of the fairings are rough, or smooth as per normal Yamaha OEM fairing of the era.

PS - I will try to post some pictures soon, but it could go horribly wrong...

In the absence of other replies I’d have a look at pictures of genuine fairings for sale on eBay and the like and see if they are similar to yours.

Eg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266656159179 which look quite rough on the inside.

Hopefully scunnylad on here will spot this, he's got at least one I think and restores them so he'd be the man! Shame you can't tag people on here but you could find him and pm him if he doesn't arrive soon.

Jealous though, love a homologation special!

ETA he did a restoration thread years ago which might have some photos.

Morning, thanks both - I did look at eBay and other pictures to try to confirm it but wanted to be 100% sure. I've also been through the restoration thread by Scunnylad as I remembered it from a while ago. I'll see if I can PM him to hopefully secure some words of wisdom.

Thanks again.

He's active and has commented on another thread in May.

I'm in for this as this was one of my poster bikes!

Cool. Thanks - hopefully he's feeling talkative. biggrin

It only landed yesterday morning and I just keep standing at the side of it looking at all the design details.

It's lovely when you have a bike you feel like that about, isn't it. I regularly walk into the garage with a beer and just sit and look at the bikes smile

They certainly are a thing of beauty! We need some pics.

PS - Scunnylad is at his 30 something TT so probably preoccupied for a week or so :-) I'm not a stalker, just read it in the TT thread biggrin

Absolutely, it's also the safest place to be after telling the other half I'd bought another bike.... biggrin

I will try my best to get some sorted ASAP.

Thanks for the heads up about Scunnylad, and your stalking skills are rather impressive. wink
