How many of you ride all year round even in snow/ice/wet/cold/wind etc and how many of you just get your toys out in nice weather?

Between the choices of getting piss wet through and shivering my tits off or having warm air and dry clothes in the winter,

I ll pick the latter hehe

I'll go as low as 5-6 degrees, but it has to be dry and sunny...

I have a bike insured/taxed to ride during winter months if its a dry day and more than say 5degC, but I dont need to ride daily as I work from home.

Between 1986 and 1998 I used to ride most days in all weather, as my bike was my sole form of transport....I remember those 6am cold winters mornings fondly ...I didn't know any different back then, on icy mornings or deep snow, I was grateful to get a lift to work smile

I’ve done 10 years of riding every day >20k miles per annum. The one thing I can say with certainty is that even with Rukka gear and heated kit, after 90 minutes on the motorway you are getting cold.

This year is the first year I’ve done the commute by car. I hate getting stuck in queues and having to negotiate the M27 with an unknown arrival time, but on the other hand I don’t find myself watching the evening news weather report with growing feelings of dread.

I like to think I have literally ridden my luck with wet leaves, poor surfaces, ice n snow etc. Having winter off is quite a nice prospect. Respect to all our brothers and sisters who ride all year. It certainly keeps you on top of your game.

I think a lot of the bikes you see out in winter aren’t actually ridden by people passionate about bikes. A lot are cheapskate commuters or people using them to get a job done.

I got talking to a chef who works in London about bikes as I knew he had one. Turns out he didn’t like or really understand bikes at all. Just that was his best option of getting to and from work.

Depends on the risk of ice, a dry 3-4 is fine with heated stuff. Tend to avoid bad rain, I don't want to be at work with damp clothes

Looking at the forecast I might be able to commute on Monday, but beyond that won't be riding for over a week.

I’ve got a mate who used to ride enduro as a teen, became a commuter into London on the Honda 750 jazz engined bike whose name escapes me. Now he doesn’t have to commute he got rid of it and zero interest in getting another bike or fun riding.

I on the other hand am going to pick up a new to me trail bike tomorrow and ride 140 miles through yellow weather warning rain. Hardcore me. wink I'll be using it to commute next week unless it’s actually sub zero temps

I do, zzr11 in the ice and snow,I got to the work car park and almost couldn't walk on it as it was so icy.

-10 is the lowest I've had a reading for when I had to use the bike to commute.

Tomorrow it will be the car as I'm in work after rush hour and there's another storm

"Nuff Respect". I did something similar many moons ago on an Aprilia RSVR 1000.
Wouldn't do anything like that again now though. Fair weather biker !

What he said. Plus only if no chance of frost in the shadows. (Hank Marvin ok).

I've been out by choice (sort of) in freezing weather with snow and ice on the roads. Definitely not my favourite kind of riding and I won't purposefully go out when the weather is bad, but I wouldn't let the chance of bad weather stop me riding.

I don’t normally ride in rain and ste, however I do winter rallies and so on, so I’m not scared of freezing wind, snow etc.

when I was a kid, I had no choice as my bike was my only form of transport. Now I have cars as well.

Looks like by your criteria I’m neither hardcore nor a proper biker.

Oh well.

Same ,all through the winter on a KH 100 with just jeans and Belstaff as outer layers ,honestly don’t know how I never came off.

Guy a few years back commuted on a Hayabusa which I thought was impressive…!!

Probably true. You won’t see anyone out on anything that isn’t a shed in the UK when there is salt down.

Used to ride Woodhead pass twice a day, every working day.

Tip for anyone, Michelin PR3's and snow don't mix well, I could have walked faster.
