Belstaff Trialmaster leather jacket
Discussion
I am considering one as a day-to-day leather jacket. But I may also buy another small bike in the spring and am wondering whether the jacket will be any good as an actual motorbike jacket.
If it is essentially fashion nonsense I may buy the model without the armour and get something else for the bike.
Opinions appreciated.

It's really going to depend on what flavour of biking you want to do.
It's marketed as being for low-speed use which I would take to mean town-centre speeds and parked-up posing rather than 100mph plus country lanes and track-days.
It's a lovely looking jacket, if you have the style and the wallet then buy it!

It is CE A rated which is a fairly poor rating but it is at least rated.
Fine for pottering I guess but personally I would want something better.
Here is what the ratings mean.

Wow for £1350 I'd assume the bike comes with it
I have this far cheaper version which I got for about £150 at the NEC bike show a couple of years ago.
Depending what sort of bike you have it'll be fine for riding with but bear in mind it will end up covered in dead flies, road grime and mud if you catch the weather wrong. And one low speed tumble or a scuff against the garage wall putting the bike away is going to ruin a very expensive coat!

Yours is wax cotton. I dislike wax cotton, hence the leather.

With regard to the price: I can get 20% off any colour it seems and about 40% off a dark olive green one.

Sorry yes same style of jacket and levels of armour though which I thought you were asking about regarding using it on a bike. With regard to the price: I can get 20% off any colour it seems and about 40% off a dark olive green one.
Mine is scuffed and scratched from a couple of years relaxed use on classic and vintage bikes - no idea how as there's been no incidents but it is. That, plus the fact I'd imagine you'll sweat more wearing it on a bike in summer than just casual wear are things you might want to consider. Less of an issue if you can remove and wash the lining.

Depends what type of riding you do but I spend a lot of time kickstarting bikes in the warm and I get boiling. Guessing leather won't be any more breathable than wax really and that style of jacket doesn't have vents etc like modern bike jackets.
It's a long time since I kick started a bike and I plan for the next time to be a very long one too!My dad has the Trialmaster,
It is a gorgeous jacket, but the armour is nowhere near what you get on even the most budget gear. It is soft padding. No back protection. I personally wouldn't wear it on a motorbike.
As others have said, I think bimbling is the intended use. If I was dead set on wearing it I would wear under armour like Knox or the motocross mesh stuff with armoured pads.

TBF you can buy a back protector that fits in the jacket, and you can also upgrade the armour to a higher grade.
