Hand Guards for a Aprilia Tuono 1000r gen 2 (V twin)
Discussion
Folks, need some help.
I'm looking to fit some hand guards to my 2008 Tuono 1000r and frankly I'm struggling to find something that will fit, function and look OK without spending a fortune.
Basically I want something that will integrate reasonably well on to the bike and be effective at keeping the wind chill down. I get cold hands up here in Scotland.
Problem is that I'm not really finding anything advertised as compatible with for the Gen 2 V-Twin Tuono. (Although plenty for the V4 interestingly)
I have found these - which bizarrely the website says are compatible with my bike if I buy them in orange version but not black!!

Also - what happens to the bar end weights when you fit hand guards? Do they still fit on, or do you need to lose the bar ends in order to have the hand guards?
For clarity my handlebars have an outer diameter of 28mm in the centre and this tapers down to 22mm where the grips and controls are. Bar end weights have Allen bolts that screw through into a threaded sleeve insert which in turn bolts in to a 17mm thread on the inside if the handlebars.
I suspect I'm over thinking this and should just buy a set and then figure out how to fit them.
Thoughts / advice?

YMMV but personally I’ve never found that hand guards like this make much difference to hand temperature. That’s based on having commuted all year round for many years on several different bikes. I had to take my GS for service this morning and my fingers were still cold when I got there even in full winter gloves and the heated grips on (mind you the dash was showing -5!)
Muffs might be a better option for warm hands but I could never get on with them.

I found the hand guards ( I installed the larger GSA ones ) on the GS were mostly useful as a frame for the Tucano Urbano muffs in winter. This combination with heated grips meant I could carry on using summer gloves and stop using heated gloves. I still needed the heated jacket, trousers and soles though!Muffs might be a better option for warm hands but I could never get on with them.
I do have heated grips already but they do nothing for the backs of my hands / fingers sadly.
I was also considering heated gloves but at £170 or so that is quite an investment - especially when I'll forget to charge them up.
Are they a game changer or just something that gives you maybe another 20 miles before your fingers inevitably turn to ice?
Also do un heated but high end winter gloves really work? My previous experience of mid range winter gloves was that they were super bulky, made it difficult to finesse the controls - and my hands would still get cold.
I don't ride regularly in the winter but up here the summer can still be cold and wet enough to render my fingers very cold in not very long.

I used wired in Gerbing gloves, so charging wasn't a concern. Using these gloves meant I could ride for 5-6 hours at normal speeds during the winter. They're no thicker than a 'winter glove', but actually warm. I preferred having muffs and heated grips though, wearing thinner gloves is always more comfortable.
The only time I didn't like muffs was on a bike with any hand guards; 'interesting' things happen above a certain speed!

I've had winter gloves from Frank Thomas (20 years ago when they could still use GoreTex), Richa, Alpinestars, Racer and Spada. I don't ride regularly in the winter but up here the summer can still be cold and wet enough to render my fingers very cold in not very long.
The Spada ones were probably the warmest by being enormously thick, but they were the least able to keep the rain out so ultimately pretty useless.
The Alpinestars high end ones were good at being waterproof but weren't that warm, even with heated grips.
The Richa ones were just plain rotten, and the Racers are OK in spring and autumn but not when it's super cold.
I used to ride all year round commuting 50 miles a day. I found with hand guards they had to be really big to make a difference, not little motocross brush guards. Heated grips (BMW's own are in a different league to everyone else's I've tried - Oxford decent, Honda awful) made more difference than gloves tbh.

I use muffs (no sniggering) with heated grips and thin gloves, cant get on with bulky gloves.
They look horrible but keep the wind off the front of the hand which gets the blast of cold.
At speed the muffs don't interfere with the controls, i've got Tucano ones and work OK on my CBR650

They look like they would be perfect - but I'm not sure I could bring myself to have those on my bike!I have never though of myself as vain in the slightest - but I must be.
Now I'm locked in an fierce emotional battle between the desire for warm hands and the desire not to look like a plonker.
Maybe I'll try some better gloves first (possibly even heated) and if that does not work I'll just go full plonker and be done with it.
Barkbusters?
https://barkbusters.net/what-fits-my/aprilia/1000-...
For example:
STORM Handguard Single Point Bar End Mount (threaded)
TO FIT: 6mm or 8mm internal thread handlebar
Code: STM-007-BK

Could look for something cheap from China that looks as if it might fit using the bar-end weight screw (or a longer version of it).
