Just look at the acceleration on this thing!

140mph before the front wheel comes down then it just rockets to what must be 230+mph...

An old vid, but very cool!

I believe the bike is 'geared down' for maximum acceleration, hence the misreading speedo - I'm sure the white lines would look continuous at 200mph!

Really? Changing the gearing doesn't alter your speedo reading though as it's taken from the front wheel - at least it is on my bike.

I'm confused now.

If it was on the front wheel how the hell would it take a reading 3ft up in the air

Seen the vid many times and it never ceases to amaze me.

Most modern bike's speedo pickups are from the output shaft hence the innaccuracy when regeared as already highlighted. GPS seems to be a good way of measurement or pushbike speedos that pickup off the front wheel.

So if this bike was re-geared, what speed do you reckon he was doing at the end? Significantly less or marginal?

Depends on what teeth he was running on front and rear sprockets.
