Ok, 4th engine in the ZX6R and the no.1 cyinder isn't firing (sprayed a bit of wd40 on the exhausts only no1 didn't smoke/steam).

I am starting to suspect that there is something wrong other than me and my mechanical abilities. (the first three engines all had one problem or another with the no. 1 cylinder.)

I changed the coils and the HT leads on the last engine and it didn't make much difference.

Could it be the ECU? if so how do you check it?

???????

Are you getting a spark on the non-firing cylinder?

4 engines

Before checking the ECU, what remains that's unique to No 1 cylinder?

Is it EFI? did you change the injectors or are they the originals?

What colour is the plug on the affected cylinder and is it wet?

Try to keep the diagnosis as simple as possible.

It's a 96 ZX6R isn't it from your profile.

I think it is carbs on it not injection (I stand to be corrected there), if so is this just an initial problem that sorts itself out after the engine has got hot.
What I'm thinking is just the way the bike stands at an angle on the side stand which would lead to the float chamber for that cylinder getting too full of motion lotion - hence effectively floading and not running.

Just a guess, so if i'm talking cp feel free to say so

Thanks guys

Dern - haven't tried to check if it is sparking as I spent the whole weekend fitting the engine but that is next on the list. thanks.

Bliarout - It has carbs. and before I swapped engines it often came out black and gooey. But would run ok again after cleaning.

Vitesse39 - had it running on both padock stand an side stand.

So I'll check if no 1 is sparking if not anyone know how to check the ecu?
