Rallymoto Adventure Bike Rally Events - Have you done one?

Looking to try a different kind of biking event this year and have come across the Rallymoto ‘Kielder 500’ 2 day rally event.

Anyone on here ever done anything like this before? Specifically the Rallymoto events.

I’ll be doing it on my own as a complete novice and doing it for the craic rather than anything approaching competitive.

All tips and advice welcome.

I've done a few and will do the Kielder 500 again this year. They are great fun. There is very little competition, loads of people are out for the fun of it. Navigation can be tricky at first but on a 500 event there are so many riders around you'd have to try hard to get lost I think.

Kielder is mostly wide forestry tracks, but there will be some "interesting" bits for sure! We were lucky in a particularly rutty section last time I did it, the track was fine but I'm told in the last recce a week earlier the water was so deep they couldn't see the ruts!

Do you need advice about anything in particular? If you're on Facebook the Rallymoto group is very useful.

Thanks for the response, and you pretty much covered most of my questions.

As I’ll be doing it alone, and it being my first roadbook style rally I wondered if it would be better to do it with someone else for the first time, or if going solo wouldn’t be a problem. Sounds like it won’t be?

I know the Kielder area pretty well to start with as it’s an area I ride fairly often.

I assume the navigation can be done via a mobile phone mounted to the bike?

I've always done those events on my own, it's never been an issue. Everyone is friendly and due to the numbers we start off 4 at a time. The organisation is pretty laid back and there are plenty of people around to help if you need it.

For the navigation, you can do it on a mobile but I'd advise getting a tablet if you can, only so you can see the information at a glance when riding. There's no way I could see it well enough on my phone, when the bike is bouncing around on a trail. You can get away with a cheap Samsung Active Tab 2 with a £3 sim card, that's a setup a lot of riders use.

I did the Wales 500 a few years ago and can highly recommend it. Great fun. Burt and his team are very welcoming to newcomers, and have access to some great stages. Quite fancy the Portugal event.
