Tomorrow at 08h30 I will take my Moto Guzzi V7 for its annual service, ride 30 minutes of lovely country twisty roads towards the dealership in Chalon-sur-Saône. They will give me a demo loaner (probably a V85TT) to get back home. Then after a day of shopping and pottering around in the garden, I will ride back to pick up my bike before they close at 17h30.

Sunday's weather isn't looking great (a few showers in the morning then sunny and dry), but I *will* be going out for a long ride with a local mate, probably to the hills behind Mâcon. Next Tuesday I will be in horsepiddle in Geneva for a fairly routine operation, but under general anaesthetic and one which will keep me off a motorbike for the next 4-6 weeks. This will be the first time I've ever been not riding for medical porpoises, and I'm not looking forward to it frown

So keep posting pics of your bikes in scenic settings as the weather gets better, so I can at least vicariously enjoy them!

Hope all goes well in surgery. I was in the same boat a couple do years back, had a ruptured Achilles injury followed by gall bladder removal, lost my whole riding season.

Look on the bright side, ar least you have the summer and the scenery to make up for it and a freshly serviced bike to enjoy.

Heading down to Grenoble from Lausanne tomorrow. Wanted to rent a bike but the OH is furniture shopping so an suv it is :/

Thanks for the kind wishes. Just back from MG Chalon, on something with a bit more oomph (ookph?) than my V7.

@michael

O/T but I didn t know where better to ask.

Do you know if the grimsel and gotthard passes are open yet? Google saying not but Google maps is conflicting. Just wondering what better local info is available.

Otherwise where would you recommend for a drive starting out from Lausanne? I was planning on a day trip tomorrow taking in Jaun, gotthard and grimsel but looks pointless doing so if they’re closed hehe

I found this link that might help: https://www.alpen-paesse.ch/en/

Looks like most passes are still closed.

I enjoyed this, but wouldn't normally comment on it, as it's just autocorrect being autocorrect

I think they’re both some sort of reference to mispronunciation and will turn out to be something form The Goon Show or something equally obscure nowadays.

Last one is hospital.

That’s the site I use, which usefully includes predicted opening dates. There is another cycling-based one for the French alpine passes around the Maurienne area (where I ride a lot) which also a good source.

Very nice, I've test ridden one of those when they first came out and loved it.

Very capable bike and a characterful engine. I fear it's not really sporty enough to be a sportsbike, and not really luggage-worthy, versatile, and comfy enough to be a tourer. It didn't have me reaching for my wallet personally, but I can see how it could appeal to many others.

Operation went to plan, feeling fragile but relatively pain free; should be home by Thursday lunchtime, and back to the office beginning of May.

It is the university public hospital, but it appears I qualified for the 8th floor penthouse suite smile
