Long shot I know but I have a bike on loan for a week, next week to see if I kike it XR 250 Honda and whilst I still have my jacket and lid I ned to buy / rent a pair of boots size 9 and a pair of trousers size 36 anyone have or know anyone looking to sell either of these.

Afraid I can't help you with the loans, but I've a suggestion.
Nowadays, you can get pretty good helmets for 30 pounds. They'll be polycarbonate rather than fibreglass and kevlar, but they pass the safety tests, and seem to be spectacular value for money. You could just buy one of them, and then keep if for future use.
You'll get people saying "if you have a 30 pound head, get a 30 pound lid", but that's clearly rubbish. I'd be surprised if these people would admit that they value their heads at 400 pounds (or very likely less).
Supposedly the cheap lids are a let down in terms of features (quick release visors, good vents etc.) but fine in terms of safety.

Hmm arse is all I can say. Guess you diddnt read last weeks ( i think) MCN then! first comprehensive helmet test ive ever seen in the bikin' press.
The cheap thermoplastic helmets where on a par with ahead of many several hundred £ jobs, and some beat practically all the expensive ones inc Arai, Shoei etc on some of the crash tests. Basicaly if its up to the BS blue sticker level or the euro equivalent thing its pretty damm good and you can get em for not much more than £30 esp at a show & with a discount like at the NEC.
personally I value my head at £17.6 millon 'ish' but as the most expensive lid i could find was only about £500 and my head is worth far more than that, I just go out with a large bankers draft for £20million (it pays to be extra careful) wrapped round my skull.....

Secondly, if you'll read my post again, I pointed out that I doubt those who have a 400 pound helmet would value their heads at 400 pounds.
And thirdly, as has been pointed out by someone else already, the cheaper helmets are perfectly good at protection. They tend to fall down on things like comfort, nice visor mechanisms etc.

So... if cheap lids are just as good at protection, why do you need one that is at least Gold ACU approved to race in? NONE of the Polycarb's that I am aware of, reach that standard?
Admittedly the filling is the REALLY important bit as that soaks up the blunt trauma damage (and also why you should bin a helmet after a reasonable bang, but also after a few years normal use as the filling has compressed down)
I just crashed my bike - doh!... ermmmm anyone got a spare £300 or a large bankers draft with origami instructions ;-)

If your realy realy realy stupid you dont need a lid cus any impact may knock some sense into your thick dome!!! 
Not but realy you get what you pay for, a £30 lid is probly a bag of shit, it may just scrape through to meet the minimum standard, it may have a shite strap fixing or poor visor seal , the list goes on. Personal preference is AGV, the older ones were very heavy but It never bothered me. Have a X vent model AGV at the min and Its realy good, dont much care for the seatbelt type chin strap locking dongel but thats cus Its the first one Ive had of this type.
