Get this.... There's me on the GSXR on a ride at the weekend. My neighbour and good friend is a bike fanatic (he who got me involved in biking) has a "factory" Aprillia and a daily commute. Now the daily commute is a kinda yamaha "trials" bike thingy....600/650cc with around 43bhp. Anyway, could I keep up with him at the weekend? No. Not even in the same county. To watch this guy ride is something else. Not dangerous or inconsiderate, just "fluid" and effortless..... T'was a pleasure to watch.

Just thought I'd share that with you!!!

Patience, young samurai. Focus on the sound of one hand clapping and you attain enlightenment........or something!

Was this on small backroads? If so, he has lots of torque at his disposal whereas you're probably in 2nd or 3rd with only a few revs on the clock.

Also, confidence and experience count for a lot.

chilli.

Ask your friend to go out with you again. Ask him to go in front and slow it down. you stay behind and follow his lines.

Don't try too hard and, if you don't feel comfortable at his speed, don't even try to match it!

I'm certainly not one of the faster riders but I ain't the slowest - and I ride at a speed that I'm comfortable with. I won't be rushed by others nor will I try to keep up with them if I'm not comfortable to try.

On a track day, however, that philosophy might be flawed......
