I have standard visor and helmet. In the rain, if its chucking it down, I can't see a thing. Is there anything out there that can help you?

Of course, I don't expect wipers on my visor! Is there anything out there that is an improvement, or a signigicant improvement?

Thanks guys.

Best thing I've found it to keep it extremely clean and move your head to the side and the rain just runs off. Also make sure that you can't get rain on the inside of the visor.

Products like Rain-X etc are pretty good at getting the water to just run off whilst riding.

A Fog City for the inside of your visor helps stop it misting up. Rain-X works to a point, but at slower speeds I find the water sits in the middle of the visor. I use a Bob Heath V-Wipe - like a windscreen wiper for your finger to clear this.

Hope that helps,
Steve.

Interesting... keep the suggestions coming!

What do guys like V. Rossi use when its pouring in a GP?
Surely they need to see clearly!?

I recall an ad for an arai rain visor... what does that do?

GP riders travel a little faster than a commuter , so the breeze just blasts the water off the visor. They also use tear offs, which would be a bit pricey as a daily rider.

I agree with the stuff already mentioned... if going quick enough turning your head from side to side will remove the water in the airflow.. going slower a vee-wipe on the index finger works for town work.
Always used a fog city on the inside of the visor to stop it misting up this is far more of a problem in the rain than the water on the outside usually.

I use a Respro foggy mask in the dry & wet and this does a very good job preventing the visor misting up. As has said above moving your head side to side at speed will help the rain beed off.....but I must admit it was pretty wet this morning....and loads of spray from the coaches & lorries southbound on the M11

As well as the V-wipe thingy there are gloves with a sort of chamoisy bit on the back for visor-wiping purposes, which I found very useful.

Some time ago, some bright spark came up with the idea of having a rotating disc/propeller type thing stuck on to the front of the helmet, such that the lower half was in your eyeline and as it spun it kept yor view clear (or something).

Seemed a weird idea at the time, but does any one know what came of it other than not much ?

They use those on boats... have a reputation for making a dreadful noise and not actually being that good

Can't really see it working on a curved thing like a visor, and I can imagine the housing for it and the flat disc screwing up the aerodynamics of the lid and wrenching your head about.

Arthur C. Clarke had the idea of having ultrasonic exciters round the edge launching sound waves into the material to shake water droplets off. Would be a cracker if you could get it to work, though I suspect exploding visors might be a hazard...

anyone that has owned a italian bike knows that anything older than 3 years has bolt made of chocolate, go out in the rain, and they will melt.. .. .. .. my last italian bike, that weather didn't stop me riding, lasted a year before titanium bolt upgrade (over a grand) so visor is the least of my worries!
