I've just fitted a new sidestand as the old one had apparently fallen off whilst riding (!) - now, the stand is held on by one bolt - if you tighten this bolt too much then the stand doesn't move - if you leave it loose then it's going to wotk free. How the hell is the bolt secured????

If anyone could take a quick look I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers,.

Mine has a bolt through it with a Nyloc locking nut on the back and yes if you tighten it too much it doesn't move. The Nyloc should not come undone (mine hasn't in 7 years) you could use loctite threadlock, or if you're really worried you could get 2 thinner nuts and lock one against the other (with Loctite).

Hmmm, no Nylock nut came with the fitting kit and the bolt does bolt straight into the threaded stand.

Is the Nylock standard fitment do you know?

The sidestand on my Ducati lost one bolt, leaving just one. It was one of those annoying spring-up side stands.

That's how it came, (mine is the older style 'flip-up' stand though), the bolt is long enough to pass through the stand, bracket and have a Nyloc nut with washer on it and there's still about 6 - 8mm showing at the back, looks like you're missing the nut/washer.

You can download a parts manual from; www.ducati.com/bikes/catalogs.jhtm

and workshop manual from; www.duc.nu/manuals/

Cheers Catso - looks like I'm missing the nut as you say.

It should be ok for a quick blat home as it is - just have to remember to get it fixed ASAP before I lose another stand....

Thanks for the help.

mine dont have the nut behind?

I took it back to the ducati shop a few months ago asking them to tighten the stand up and they said its fine, there is a little play but it has a smooth action (its the later fixed side stand rather than flip up)

hope it helps

I think it should have - maybe they have a tendency to fall off;

This (small) pic is of a 916 frame with the flip-up stand but the later manual (996 from Ducati's website) shows the same nut - page 98 part no 31 - for the newer style with cut-out switch.

Without a nut it can work itself out of the threads during operation.

You wouldn't need to get a special Ducati nut as long as it's a Nyloc - should be available at any good engineering type shop.
