Hello all.
Just wondering if anyone could recommend a bike suitable for tall people?

I'm a novice to all of this but you've got to start somewhere.

Cheers.

I would say any of the big trailie types or tourers would be OK,because if you are sitting more upright height is less of an issue, but if you want a sporty bike I think you'll have to go for an Aprilia or a Triumph. I'm 6 foot and found most of the Jap sports bikes and Ducatis uncomfortable.

Yeah I've heard about that. An RSV Mille would really be nice, but too soon maybe?
I don't mind buying a new bike but need some opinions.

Thanks for the advice Sparkey.

I'm 6'2 and my Blackbird. Decent handling, performance and top reliability.

Also - Doesn't look like a monkey bike when I'm sat on it

I mixed and matched my kit to get a decent fit. It can be done. Long sleeves stop bare arms showing when reach forward to the bars. A long back on the Jacket will help stop getting cold draughts un your spine. Whatever you do, make sure your jeans don't have a seam or thick leather behind the knee because you are going to have to fold your legs up pretty tight whatever bike you get.

As a "novice" I'd say something like a DR400 reasonably low power, sit up position and perfect for long legs. After that go sports bike, I'd say anything over 750 really has a leaning towards taller riders, huge choice.

I can totally relate to the 'Monkey bike' look!
You're right Nacnud. The folding of legs is a real issue.
My list of choices begins to grow.

Im 6' 3'' and the Bandit is fine for me,ive got flat bars on it so its more of a streach and is better on my back. Hornet & Fazer were much tighter & I had a go on an R6 & a VFR400 and bloody hell I felt like some kind of giant. My leathers have streachy non leather bit round the back of the knee which is more comfortable for my praying mantis like legs when bent up.

Its not so much the size of the bike but where the peg position is that determines the leg room, so most sports bikes with high pegs are gunna be cramped for long legged ones. Particually if you have a shagged knee like wot I do and it hurts to be bent up for long periods- which on a sports bike means i have to streach it out after about 10 mins! i can last almost an hour on my Bandit.

Long legs do have some advantages - they great for paddling the bike round.

6'4" - had a BANDIT 600, and now Ive gone for a daytona 955 (02 model) because its great for my size. technically it has a lower seat than an R6, but its a lonng bike, so feels more comfortable

I have a `95 EXUP RU and although it has a pretty low seat height, it is very comfortable, I`m 6`4 and it doesnt put too much strain on my wrists etc. I do fancy changing it for an RSV Mille but that will be a while away yet!

Best bike for a tall person?

I'd say a Penny Farthing.

Have I misunderstood the question?

Harley Fat Boy

Although the seat height is real low, it has that easy rider position with high bars and your legs stretched out in front.

Seroiusly, if thats no good, have you tried any of the BMW's? Some of their off/on road bikes look fairly decent in size.

I was looking at the GS650 Dakkar or the 1100RS. im just over 6" and to be honest when i did mytest on a gs500, it almost killed me. no where to fold my legs !
I have ridden an Arica Twin, its great lots of leg room, comfortable for 100 + miles, good mpg... if its not yoru cup of tea, what about a Dominator ?

or Triumph tiger ?

Honda africa twin is a tall bike , you may still need a ladder to get on it though
