Test in UK ok for Aus..? Info for Aus test?

I have been saying i will take my full test ever since i was 18... Now i really fancy doing it (before i get too close to the age of a born again biker! 
).
Only trouble is I am now in Aus for the foreseeable future...
I understand that the Aus system is that you are limited to 250cc capacity for the first year (which is not necessarily a bad thing, but i fancy something a bit bigger - not massive though). I was wondering if i came back to the UK and did an intensive test and passed. Could i immediately apply to have my licence upgraded here..? (for my car test i just submitted my UK licence and they just transferred the classes over).
Also I'd like to hear from anyone that can offer a bit of "been there, done that" info on the aus test system.
