Hi everyone,

Has anyone got wavy discs? What do you think? Wot sort of pads do you need for 'em?

Will need to get a new disc at some point, so thought I might as well get a wavy one.

Cheers

The idea of them is for the leading edges of the curves to clean the pads of dust, isn't it?

Dunno what pads to use but you'll be getting through them quickly, from what I've heard.

I have a wavy rear disk on my 7R and I just use normal EBC pads on it. I haven't a clue if its any better than a normal disk, but it certainly looks nice

LOL Dennis

Does it matter if you only have one disc out of the two that's wavy (e.g. for brake balance)? It matters to me financially!

My bike has got wavey discs and it does eat the pads quite a bit more than ordinary discs do. It is a bit of a pain so if i were you i would just stick to the ordinary discs. Do look smart though dont they ?

I would assume you need both discs to be equal for MOT purposes aswell, but also if one disc is working better than the other it could cause problems with wheel bearings? Best to do both.

I ran standard discs on my SV all year whilst racing and never had a problem with them. The most important factors in good SV brakes are to keep the calipers clean and to clean the 6 or so rivets that hold the disc to the carrier. If these are not cleaned, they jam up very easily and cause massive heat build up in the discs. Spray each rivet liberally with brake cleaner quite often and they'll be fine.

Incidentally, the guy who won the SV championship in 2004 used standard pads and discs all season with no issues.

Hello,
The wavy disks are supposed to dissipate heat faster than normal round ones. The wavy ones have more surface area around the outside edge, I think that’s what there for, look bloody good though.
Nick.
