Morning all,

I ride a CBR400rr thats kept outside under a plastic cover.

Recently when starting my bike a loud bang/pop comes out of the exhaust before it starts.

Anybody know why its doing this?

Cheers, Butch

Fuel getting through to the exhaust and igniting there?

Does it turn over a lot before firing? If so it is probably unburnt fuel in the exhaust that ignites as the engine fires.

Yeah, the starter turns over...it bangs...scares the crap out of me...i pause...try to start it again and it fires into life!

Sounds like it is what you say, is this a problem that needs sorting?

I'd say so.

Has it got a cat by any chance?

Proably just the cold taking the edge off the battery. Not a huge issue unless you go out at 5 am and upset the neibours. If it gets worse then it might be worth looking at new battery and or plugs.

It takes a few seconds to fire when its freezing cold outside. Starts straight away in more mild weather though.

Its due for a service at the start of next year, so i'll get my mechanic to check it over then.

Cheers for advice fella's
