Ok, you were right, most scooter riders are d*cks
Discussion
I know I argued with someone a while ago when they said all scooter riders are d!cks, but maybe he was right. A neighbour has just got a scooter, hes 16 and it cost him £185. Is de resricted, and he was telling me a story about how he was doing about 35mph in a 30, and there was a Micra right behind him. They are coming up to a bend with quite short visability (as in distance, but not a blind bend) and the micra pulls out to overtake him before the corner.
"So then I ripped open the throttle, got up to about 42mph and we hit the corner". What happened was the Micra then had to floor it to get past him - so this guy not only endangered his own life but also the Micra drivers. Luckily there wasn't anything coming the other way, but he was proud of what he'd done. He didn't see how blatently dangerous this was!
And now hes talking to me on MSN about how next yer when he's 17 "a guy at his dads office" will fit a new exhaust and 90cc kit for free if he buys the parts. And this guy has to be good as , and I quote, "hes got a speedfight which is modded loads he can do wheelies at 55 mph on it as well, he beat a fireblade in a wheelie competition - hes got it on video on his phone, definitely him as he doesnt have a helmet on".
So I'm sorry for arguing with you. Not all scooter riders are d!cks, some like me try and ride consideratly to other road users, and keep within the law. But yes, a high percentage act like complete w*nkers and I certainly won't be going out riding with him.

Reading that I'd say the micra driver has the problem (apart from driving a micra
). Sure matey on the scooter rose to the bait, as he accelerated away from the micra tailgater, but the micra overtaking him into a bend is far worse. I don't think all are scooter riders are dicks, but it's funny that the one's you notice tend to be.
It's not an age thing either, the worst I notice are those who commute on their scooter (generally a fashion conscious vespa
) in the same manner they'd drive their beemer. I digress.
As was once wisely said to me, if you see a fault in someone else, correct it in yourself. The major thing, as you've spotted yourself, is this lad put himself in play. The Micra could have hit him and quite possibly hurt him badly. There's no point being right while you from your hospital bed, so learn to read the signs.
Think about it, if the micra driver is tailgating, how good do you think the rest of their driving skills are? You can't control the distance people are from the back of you, so let 'em by. If the tailgater is in front, you can stay well clear of 'em. Chances are their awareness isn't all it should be, so distance is the best way stay out of their accident. Plus if they race away, they're not going to hold you up anyway, so no worries on that score either. In a perfect world I'd love to educate these retards, but the reality is on two wheels you're at much greater risk, so let them go and stay in one piece.
Ride safe,
Steve.

Thing is it might not be the scooter that is the issue, maybe you post should read "All 16 year old boys are dicks"

I think that's the point. Not sure I'd say "All 16 year old boys are dicks", but most manage to fall into that category. The lads comments remind me of conversations I had at 16 with fellow FS1E, AP50, SS50 etc. riders. (If you’re old enough to know what a FS1E, AP50 or SS50 was then I’m sure you also know the type of conversation.)
I think what needs to be done is that this lad needs to have the potential dangers of his actions pointed out to him (nicely!!!!) and the benefits of others “worldly wisdom” imparted so that he has a better chance of surviving until he is old enough to laugh at comments made by 16 year olds!
hate scooter riders!
i live in blackpool and ride a gs125(i'm only 18!), the amount of scooters that pull up behind u at the lights and rev the sh!t out of their peds to try and push you into a race
is unbelievable! they think that their sh!tty 50cc machines(if i dare call them that!
) will beat anything. i've had so many from the start line(traffic lights) that most of them don't even bother any more coz they now know i ain't some wimpy girl on a bike who sits at 30mph all the way round town, and that i can ride!
coz of the layout of the land round here, i can have a lot of 'high' powered cars round blackpool on my ickle 4 stroke 125 so a ped is no probs!
ne1 ever fancy wreaking havoc on some peds in blackpool, let me know!

If he's got it videoed on his phone as you say, acquire it - I'm sure Mr. Plod would be more than interested

Meh, I've had scooter riders push their way infront of me (GSX-R) at the lights, over the line. I just wait for them to wobble off out of the way when the lights go green. It's a bit annoying but no point getting upset about it.
Most scooter riders, in my experience, are probably idiots. Not all, but enough that it's my assumption on learning their mode of transport. (Same kind of assumption you would make on learning someone drove a 2CV.. Not all are lentilists, but enough that I'd make that assumption...)
Most teenage boys are idiots. I was one, I speak from experience.
The combination is a deadly one of inexperience, vulnerability on the road and utter and complete stupidity.
Take last night for example, I was indicating right (well in advance, in slow moving 5phm traffic) to pull into a space in the hatched area in the middle of the road for a "turn right" lane.
Just as I was about to pull out, a scooter goes flying past me on the right.
It was dark, it was drizzly, were I paying that little bit less attention (my spider senses were tingling lol) then I'd have taken the kid (scooter, L plates, looked like a teenage boy) on an express trip to an ambulance ride and some hospital food.
There are a bunch of them that buzz around the town centre constantly and then stand around near their scooters with helmets their only protective clothing) under their arm trying to look cool... A bit tragic, but hey we were all teenagers once. Thats not the first time I've come close to wiping one of these kids out as a result of their kamikaze maneuvers, its going to be a matter of time until one of them becomes roadkill.

talking of stupid scooter stunts, one of the funniest things I ever saw was a pizza delivery boy coming off his scooter on a mini-roundabout, thing is he wasn't going very fast, the road was a bit slippery, but he lost it in a really simple manouevre &
I think I felt more sorry for the poor s*d who had ordered the pizza he had on the back!

As a biker in the Blackpool area and a regular user of scooters I look forward to a close encounter with our little lady.
Personally for nipping into town I find the twist n go peds ideal. Loads of luggage space ( compared to an elise ), park the things anywhere , 12 million to the gallon, 5p to tax and insure and very easy to manouvre around other traffic , i.e. GS 125s

It was me that you argued with. I'm gald to see you've repented
However, the above example isn't why I hate them. I hate them for their complete lack of awareness and for thinking that their scooters are bikes.
The above description is just that of a 16 year old.
By the way, does your friend know that you're slating him on a public forum while with the other hand you chat to him on MSN?
