What bike for £5k
Discussion
Ok, so I've got the green light to upgrade. Can only spend £5k (including p/x) and have been looking at the usual, GSXR, CBR600RR, ZX636, R6.
Anyone got any advice or preferences they can tell me? Love the look of the underseat exhausts, and need something I can fly around the B roads on, but also commute (40mins) on. Oh yeah, the more fairings te better!
Cheers.

i would go with the 600RR, its by far the most confidence inspiring in the corners and very well balanced, and they havent won the supersport titles for the last 2 years for nothing, theyve won because thier an excelent bike, dont belive me?, honestly go and test ride 1 im sure you will love it.
A fireblade is a very good alround bike. I've been commuting solidly on mine since last april and it can cope with all sorts while still having pretty good comfort, good performance and handling, good reliability and the finish hasn't been too badly scarred by the salt (mostly footpegs and wheel spindles affected and I should have covered them in wd40). I found 600s a bit small and a bit breathless whereas the 900 can be left in 3rd or 4th and wind it on and off to overtake when you're tired in the morning or you rag the arse of it if you've woken up all perky.

Many thanks F.M,
Ok, so what do we think of this.

It's a brand new bike, zero miles for £5k. It's one off paint job, that I think is ok, but not too sure about all the stickers!
I have achoice between that and a 2003 model (but 05 registered) CBR600RR which has done 1200 miles.
Which would you buy and why?
Many thanks.

I would go for the Daytona every time. (I’d loose the stickers though!) The extra torque will make for more relaxed commuting. Likewise, the extra torque will make the bike faster on “real roads” yet the Daytona should be as quick on the track.
The depreciation will probable be less on the Daytona and the build quality should be pretty comparable. There is also something special about a new bike that, even with a low mileage, you won’t get with a second hand bike.
I have assumed that warranties, insurance etc. are comparable.
Either way, they are both good bikes.

I TOTALLY agree with this, exactly my thoughts. However, the stickers can't be removed, it would require a paint job.
I've been told that the Honda is prob slightly a better bike, but I just can't decide.
If I went with the honda, would you get an 03 bike (05 registered) with 1,200 miles, or an 05 bile with up to 10k miles for similar kind of money?
Cheers.

I'd buy the newer bike with higher mileage and check what of the following it needed such as tyres, chain, any major services etc but if you're going to put 10k on a year it'll need all of these soon enough anyway.

I'd still have the Daytona and live with the stickers but then I'm a fan of more cc's and less cylinders.
If not the Daytona, I'd go for the older, lower mileage Honda as I doubt there is much difference in performance and while I agree that most bike engines will do very large mileages, when it comes to selling, there is a preceprion that over 10k is a long way.
