Depends primarily on your available time and when you want to go. My preference would be to go Dover to Calais then ride down. If there was time then I’d avoid the Autoroutes and take 3 days minimum, up to 5 days. If you’re on a budget then Formula 1 hotels offer very cheap overnight stays without the hastle of carrying, putting up and taking down a tent. They can also be easily booked in advance on-line.

If you need to be fast, then it can be done via the Autoroutes in just over a day. Either way, if you intend going in the next 3 months, then you are probably better to go Portsmouth to Bilbao then across to Barcelona.

Probably in the back of a lorry. By the time you take into account ferry, tolls and petrol in riding the bike down.

My preference was to ride it from Bilbao - then I found out a ticket is £330!!! F£ck that. I can get it shipped for £225. That's that then.

Ride it down there. Just find a local Barcelona dealer that can fit a new rear tyre for the return journey. Having said that, you'd probably get there and back on a fresh set!

It's worthwhile factoring in these costs before you write off the ferry option.

It's a one-way trip boys. I've found a guy who'll ship it door to door for £260. He wants to pick the bike up a week before shipping. I'm very wary about the whole shipping thing (handing over my P+J), so what things should I ask??

I've never had a bike shipped anywhere before but if I were you I'd take LOTS of pictures of the bike before it goes. That way, if there is cause to claim for damage (do check insurance cover first) then you will have some evidence to help prove that the damage was done in transit.

Hiya dude!!

If you want to find out more about shipping - the guys I do trackdays with organise our bikes to go out in a crate to Almeria, Catalunya etc. No problems whatsoever with transporting them - you just have to take your bike to H'row & put it in the container - if you want me to find out what company they use just send me a PM & I will get a number for you.

This is sounding like one of those dodgy foreign buyers where they take your P+J and give you sweet FA in return - be VERY bloody careful mate.

Thats the best option, loads of trackday operators transport bikes over regularly, then you can pick it up from whichever circuit and ride home!

I brought mine over to Spain in the back of a van but was carrying loads of other stuff too, may be making a return trip to the Lakes from Alicante in the next month, not sure how much space I'll have left otherwise I'd offer to bring it over for you

There is another option which I have used to avoid sitting on the autoroute south for 900kms. Ride to France, put the bike and yourself on the overnight train from Paris you sleep, the bike is strapped safely on. Get of at Montpellier at 7am, have breakfast, then ride to Spain via the coast roads or over the mountains. Your fresh, the bikes fresh, so enjoy the days ride. You've saved 900kms of boring auto route.

How much did that cost you? When I looked into it, it was a fortune.
