Life has changed for me somewhat in the last few months - I have aquired a fiance and am getting married in August this year. As a huge gesture to the future Mrs G I have agreed to sell my car to fund part of the wedding The deal is not quite as bad as it sounds 1 - she is hot 2 - she has agreed to let me get a bike

I used to have a GSXR 600 (K2) until it was stolen in August last year. I never actually got around to replacing it, but have now been given the go ahead I want a bike that is as fun to ride as my previous machine, but given that I have only been riding for 14 months am unwilling to go up to a 1000cc sports bike just yet (insurance may also be a problem). I have narrowed the selection down to;
1 - GSXR 600 K4
2 - ZX636R (2004)

What are peoples thoughts on these? Also, where would you shop? I prefer to by privatley, but biketrader just doesn't seem to have that much on it and I am always a bit wary of e-bay. Are there any other avenues I ought to try?

Cheers

A

hi m8, why don't you get a woman who'll let you have both(or change her way of thinking) and pay slightly less for each, that way you have car+bike and spend about the same!!! some good deals on here and then everybody's happy...just a thought

I agree - you'll be looking at those ridiculous table decorations & I bet you won't be thinking how great they go with the bridesmaids dresses *puke* never compromise! is that too shallow? hmmmnnnn well maybe I am, but then I don't go a whole bundle on big fluffy weddings and would prefer new cars & bikes to all that guff.

She probably won't take you on a 2 day trackday in the Pyrenees as part of your honeymoon either - he he he

All sold already, or a bloody huge waiting list AFAIK? Then you'll probably have to pay a premium for a nearly new/slightly used one...

Having had my fair share of relationships, trust me when I say this one is worth it

I am not all that fussed about having to get rid of the car - I know that I will have another one day. So what about the bike - GSXR or ZX6R - what do people think???

Well, the car is sold now, so I am off 2 wheeled shopping this weekend :-)

I am almost certain that it will be an 03 ZX6R in Blue. What do you guys think?

I think the ninja's the way to go. The Suzi is very competent and capable but I think a little lacking in the grin factor you get from a kwacker. I rode a sixer gixer round Jerez in spain for two days. It was very good in all departments but I couldn't really comment on what it felt like to ride afterwards. It just did everything I asked of it without fuss, turned neutrally, braked well, went well, linear power, wide powerband, glitch free injection but somehow it was all a bit too smooth for it's own good. I probably wouldn't have lapped any faster on the Kwak (mind you it is 636cc) but I think I would have had more fun.

Kwakers are just that little bit more

Can you stretch to the later style ZX6R, I think it's the B1H with the air intake above the lights - it is sex on wheels if nothing else

Vitesse - thats the one I am going for. The 2003 model was the first of the face lifted bikes - very sexy :-)

Reading through all your comments,

The two bikes chosen are both good fast reliable machines. For me both gixers and Kwakas on the 750 range are nicer looking, as light and better for touring... wheelies etc. Also piss on a triumph for handling

I may throw the cat among the pigions here... but there is only one colour for the kawaski! and its not toffee apple red or blue

Its your call of course (well the wifes)

What ever you decide do it quick as the prices are going to start moving again very soon! You will get a snip.

Let us know what you decide, what money you want to spend and I will keep an eye out!

I am going to skip a bike this year, following some scum bag nicking my R1 last summer after spending a fortune on tuning it up

good luck

Paul

It is a beautiful 2003 ZX6R in Blue with 3,300 miles on the clock. It really is a mint bike

Having said that and being really pleased with the bike, the ride home was horiffic I got absolutley soaked thrgh

Bloody good bike and the performance is amazing, my mate had one it would beat me for top end against my Fireblade

So it really is un knockable, and the blue is cool.

Have a great wedding and a super summer on the bike

Cheers guys. I am just looking forward to the day when the sun comes out and I can get out and really find out what she will do. The motor certainly feels grunty, with a lot more poke low down than my old GIXER 600

Does anyone know anyone know where to find out info on suspension settings? The bike seems really hard and I haveread that they would benefit from a few tweaks to soften it up a bit.

Cheers

Those Ninjas were notorious for having a harsh ride. Ideal on the track but not so good on the B roads.

If you have deep pockets, get hold of an Ohlins shock. Makes my Aprilia like a magic carpet compared with some sports bikes I've ridden.
