I am thinking of buying a 1997 CBR600FV as a first bike (the bike I have found is a bit scratched here and there, so no worries of dropping and other things im supposedly expected to do..hah!), I am 21 in July and thats when ill be taking my DAS, althou im planning to buy the bike before then. Good first bike?

Was just wondering if anyone could give me a quick rough Fully comp insurance quote?

You should try a proper insurance company, nobody could realistically tell you that unless they
a)had much more information and
b) were a motorcycle insurance expert....

...there are far too many things that will increase/decrease the amount you could expect to pay.

Try Carole Nash (probably the biggest bike ins broker) + a get a couple of numbers for other companies from the back of MCN

Good Luck

I would not bother with Fully Comp. I went TPFT on my 2000 CBR600F first year was £900, i had had my license about a month and i was 26. In my opinion i would only bother with Fully Comp with a much more expensive bike.

As reagrds to if it is a good first bike, then YES. I stil have mine and love it, does everything you need it to do. The first year insurance i went with www.insurance2000.co.uk this year i went direct to Honda and they were super cheap, below £200 TPFT with only 2 years no claims.

Would second the Honda idea. Have just got quote from them for 1st year CBR600F for a noobie 35yr old at 850 against 1400 elsewhere.

I am looking to do my DAS course soon and will be looking for my first bike. I keep being attracted to Ducati ST2 or ST4 I found online cheap (£2-3k). I need a bike which I can do longer trips (250 miles+) on, is this a good choice?

Ref insurance, I got myself a quote from www.bennetts.co.uk for said Ducati, £600 fully comp, no experience, 27, 3 points for an SP30 and a non fault accident in 2002. TBH most 900s were coming out around that money, for a laugh I got a quote on an RSV mille which was only about £900 (don't worry, I wasn't thinking about one as a first bike!).

Bloody hell Mark, I didn't expect to see you in here!!!
Check out the servicing costs for the Ducati. It put me off when I was looking.
Another option might be a VFR (non V-tec).
Or, if you don't mind the looks, one of the old model Sprints. Or, for a few extra quid, something like a big beemer R1100GS. Supposed to be bombproof.

Insurance quote looks not too bad. I pay just over a grand on mine with 0ncb, 0 years experience, FC, dodgy area in Leeds. Try an online quote with ebikeinsurance to see what they say.

Honda.co.uk, motorcycles, theres a small link for the insurance top of the page. Its a PITA with IE7 as it keeps throwing security warnings, but worth it.

Try www.ebikeinsurance.co.uk

They were cheaper then H&R (www.insurance2000.co.uk) but as I was with H&R already I asked them to beat the ebike quote and they did!
