Last night on my way home I passed a house where a group of 50cc scooter riders usually congregate, obviously on one of their parents driveways. Anyhow, I noticed that one of them had upgraded to an NSR125. Good lad. It made me smile seeing a lad go from a 50cc scooter up to the next level instead of getting a car (I assume).

Erm...ok...

I would imagine the only reason is that he now has 1 years NCB for a scooter/bike, and the initial cost of a decent scooter is much less than a decent car.

But yeh, nice to see someone sticking to two wheels

Indeed Ben, I see most hooded Oiks use the 2-wheeled hairdriers to commute to college/community service until they can afford a car.

This then gives them the opportunity to terrorise other 2-wheelers with their inconsiderate and unpoliced Blairite Attitude driving and to also get ones 'Chavvette' knocked up in the back seat. Glove box strewn with Burberry knickers and all.

Stereo-typing, not me surely?

Is there a big cost difference to insure a scooter than a bike then? I’ve always wondered why anyone would buy a Scooter.

Probably - your average scooter is a 50-125cc engine, where as bikes normally start at 400-600cc engines, so I would imagine the insurance will take a bit of a jump. There is a huge difference between cars and bikes/scooters - e.g. for my bike (no, not scooter, bike ), with a value of £2500, my first years insurance (at 16) is about £400. I've just been given a quote for a £4500 Ctiroen C2 1.1, totally basic spec, and the quote was a scary £1900 TPFT. So it makes more sense for some kids to just stick with scooters if they cant afford a car.

Its all down to NCB and experience.

Jeez, I didn't realise that insurance would be that steep for a Citroen 1.1. That's sickening. I wonder how much the NSR's costing the teenager I saw.

Personally, I think it's character building to start driving in a beaten up old car. It teaches you far more than these modern coddling bore-mobiles.

RS50? there are loads of bikes from 50cc upwards that give you far more performance and controle than a ped. what relly gets me is people who put tuned exausts on these things, if you want performance buy a bike.

PS just cos ya not sat like a pretty princess doesnt make it a bike.

They deserve credit for nothing - those little ers have their scooters and bikes purchased for them because their parents are thick, stupid and have more money than sense.... a 'reward' for the misery they inflict on others (including their peers).... think about it.

My 21 year old niece paid £630 TPFT last year, for a garbage £100 Fiesta 1.1. She then proceeded to write it off a month later, pulled out in front of a car at a T junction, a brand new Toyota, written off.

She wrote off another Fiesta junker three months after that, pulled across a juntion right in front of another car.

I took a ride with her one day, in her second car, before she scrapped it: total distraction, no attention to the road or where she was going, floating in dreamland! It's airheaded flakes like that that you younger guys have to thank for these mega high premiums.

She has now given up driving, the crashes have "shaken my confidence too much" !!!????
