Hi everyone,

I'll probably need a new set of tyres for the SV650 soon. In need of advice, so I thought I'd ask around.

I'm confused, because I need tyres that will cope with year-round commuting, summer blasts and the occasional track day Top priority is grip in the cold and wet, so do I need a high silicon content? However, I don't want tyres that will give up the ghost on track.

All advice welcome!

Thumbs up for the Pirelli Diablo Corsas. Although the standard Diablos are better for just road riding. If you do track work the Corsas are sticky as sh*t to the proverbial blanket. Good wear on both types.

I recently put Continental Road Attacks on my SV650S. So far so good

I'd say definitely go for more road biased tyres considering the year round commuting. Would it be worth having a summer tyre and a winter tyre?

I had these on my Buell and they were brilliant! Very sticky and they handle brilliantly.....but they're no good for everyday commuting for the following reasons.

- Motorways will eat them up and you'll end up with a flat tyre
- They are very soft so they won't last more than 2000 miles. (Mine didn't).
- The have very little tread. The legal minimum I'm led to believe. That's not good when it rains.
- They have a profile designed for cornering so not very comfortable for a bit of lazy riding.

These are great tyres but they are designed for blasting about on a weekend bike as my Buell was and little else. I don't know what's on the market now, but for an everyday commuting bike, there are better tyres out there for the purpose. Maybe try some Dunlop 207's?

Beanbag what you have described is the Pirelli SuperCorsa or Dragon Evo Corsa as they are also known which would be useless for road all year round, but superb for track and weekend blasts and as you say have a profile for cornering.

I use Diablo Corsa's all year round. I use two rears to one front i.e. 4,000 miles to a rear and 8,000 to a front, you can tell after about 6,500 that the front is knackered but you can put up with it when only commuting. If you wanted to do a track day hopefully you would put a new set on and then use them onthe road after. The wet weather grip is very good as well and personally I think better than Dunlops.

Cheers,

Andy.

Hmmmmm....maybe I got confused.....I had a pair of Diablo Corsa's on my Buell and it tore them to shreds in just over 2K miles.....maybe I just like to ride a little hard :s

BT020's

Knee down on blasts, great in all weather and more grip than i dare use on really hot days.

Bridgestone BT-020's are good for the use you describe and so are Metzeler's new Roadtec (also known as Z6?).

Viewed from another angle - if you wander into a club race paddock you can pick up part worn Supercorsas from as little as £30 PER SET (no real market for part worn 160's) and this could give you some excellent fun for the summer months provided you are careful on monsoon days - although news type person on telly tells me we're in a drought so that shouldn't happen anyway!!
