I've bitten the bullet and signed up for the IAM. Training proper starts for me in July, nice weather hopefully. Hope to do a few of the organised rideouts in the meantime to get to know people.

Anyone else done/doing this - what are your impressions? For £85 seemed like good value to me as I'm conscious ther is still a lot I should learn

Yeah, I've joined ELAM.....some kind of IAM sub. Totally recommend it. Get to meet some great people and there's so much you can learn from them. The observers are excellent, as are the social rides.
However I did pi$$ someone off once, with a rather silly overtake, and ended up locking the back wheel inches from his front. Didn't mean it really, just inexperienced I suppose. Still, no accident and a lesson learnt.

Or are you in the crew meeting at the pub near Leeming last Tuesday of the month?

I've been out on a few runs with them and they're good guys. I work with Dave who has the ancient BMW.

I'm with the Harrogate group which meets at the Empress pub.

Went along to the first meeting last night to meet a few people/show my face. Thankfully seems that there were some other newbies there too.

They'd arranged for a talk by a couple of chaps from Hein Gericke to talk about kit ie what's new, what to look for in various items. Turned into a bit of a Q&A session which was useful. The HG chaps seemed to know their stuff and it wasn't heavy sales pitch either.

Not sure about going on the first planned rideout this Sunday though.....
