It's that time of year for me and the grind of going through the various companies has started.

Background is..... I'm over 30, passed my test in 2004, passed my car licence in 1992, 1yr NCB on bike, FNCB on car. No accidents, convictions, etc. SDP only.

So far the general consensus seems to be that despite an extra years experience and 1 yr NCB and the fact that the value of the bike has gone down as it's a year older, the quotes for the next years insurance seem to have gone up by approx 50%. What is the fecking point? I could insure the TVR for less than 1/3 of what they want for the bike.

I'm starting to understand why so many people don't bother with insurance, especially when the website says 'you can reduce your premium by increasing your excess'. Yes by 3 fecking pence, thank you very much!!!!

Rant over. And if anyone can suggest an insurance company that might actually reduce my premium???

Bennets are one of the most expensive so far, along with Devitt's, Riders Choice and motorcycledirect. They all just seem to spit out the same figures within a couple of pounds of each other.
Carole Nash are more competitive but so far I haven't had one quote which is cheaper than last year.

Try Express Insurance: www.expressinsurance.co.uk - 0800 197 7082.
I've been with them a for few years now. Just renewed my insurance and once again they bettered everyone: 1998 Duke 748 SPS and 2002 Yam XJR1300 on same policy - 3000 miles p/ann each, able to commute if I want, full UK and European breakdown cover, legal etc. and protected bonus (I have over 10 years NCB ) - £250 fully comp. Bargain
Next best was Carole Nash and Devitts - Carole Nash had to work hard to beat Devitts though, and when the actual quote came through it seemed they had only quoted the basic amount. I have the added benefit (!?!) of being an old sod - 39

Results so far::: (rounded off numbers)

All quotes with £0 additional excess (only the standard policy amounts). Some give EU cover, some don't)

expressinsurance - 1100
Devitts - 1500
Riders Choice - 1500
motorcycledirect - 1500
Carole Nash - 1110
Bennets - 1500
AQuote - 1350
insurance2000 (H&R) - 800 (Best so far obviously, and with EU cover)
Roadsure - 1250
mce - 1240
performancedirect - 1120 (website says to phone as they could save you, up to, an additional 25%.... just give us the cheaper insurance to start with)
Norwich Union - 2500 (quote me fecking happy!!!!)

I'm currently with ebikeinsurance and will be getting my renewal in a few days but just trying to pre-empt the yearly bargaining process.

The main thing that's getting on my wick lately with insurance companies(as well as your points)is say your in mid term with your insurance year and you decide to change bike,i had a Hayabusa and after that a ZX12r,when i went from the ZX to a 2 year older R1 they wouldn't piggin well insure it!!,what the hell is that about??Im going through the same crap again with cars, going from a 2.0 litre petrol turbo car to an exact same year/model turbo diesel and they won't insure that either? The diesel a group 16 the 2.0 petrol turbo a group 12?I've had it with the lot of them, they must be starting this 'not allowing to change easily middle of your years insurance' for a reason,it used to be so easy!My god im hypervenilating here,im going for a lie down.

An Insurance Company tried to do that to me once. I changed vehicle half-way through a policy and they wouldn't cover the new car. They then told me that I would only get c. 10% back because I was cancelling. I pointed out to them that I didn't want to cancel the policy, they did. Why should I be penalised for their decision to discontinue cover? After some 'robust' discussion they agreed to a pro-rata refund.

That reminds me. I should probably try and get a quote from Triumph insurance to see how good they are.

I've got the phonecalls this morning from all the companies trying to beat my best quote.

An interesting morning so far.

type in insurance 2000 into google, the first option is herbert and robinson....

i was quoted £180 tpf+t on a '95 ZXR750. didn't think that was too bad as it includes pillion + business use and it assumes i shall be keeping the bike on a driveway in the centre of bedford!

i'm 26 with 4 years ncb by the way.

try 'wicked quotes' - dodgy name, but typically tend to issue either Zurich or NU policies..... google them. very good service.
