May bank holiday weekend in France
Discussion
Afternoon all.
Has anyone got any suggestions or recommendations for stuff to do in France over the first May bank holiday weekend in addition to the usual drink/eat/fornicate with French girls (unlikely but we are ruling nothing out at this stage)!
Haven't been abroad on two wheels for some time, so really looking forward to it. Am taking the Mille and my mate is on his Bonnie, going over on Sat morning and back on Monday night on the Dover/Dunkerque route..
We were thinking of the wartime monuments and that kind of thing, but if anyone has any recommendations they would be much appreciated.
Cheers and regards

Hi Mike
Check out www.old-gits.org
A group of us do an annual visit to France/Belgium/Germany and have done things like the WW1 site at Vimmy Ridge (well worth it), the Maginot Line (also very good) and a number of the Normandy museums/sites.
The question is how far are you expecting to travel? There are a number of good places to visit around the Calais area but the roads are pretty rubbish. If you’re willing to travel then either South or East from Calais are good but expect a good few miles travelling.
Have a great time (I’m off to the Massif Central on the evening of Thursday 27th April to return on Tuesday 2nd May).
Enjoy and ride safe.

Cheers David,
thanks for all the idea's - they sound good. We are up for a few hours riding away from Calais in any direction really - hoping to stop off somewhere that has a bit of nightlife. By the way, like the old-gits site! Good work.
Good luck with the trip to the Massif Central, I've skied there a few years back and thought is was a fantastic place. Hope you and all the old gits have a cracking time!
Regards

Oradour Sur Glane www.oradour.info/ is well worth a visit.
A very moving experience.
Quite near Limoges if you end up that way.

WOW, that looks like a very special place. I have driven through and past Limoges many times over the years as my ex missues lived in Souillac which is a little forther down, but I never knew that Oradour Sur Glane was there. I will be paying a visit next time though.
Cheers for the link Kitty.
