Scottoilers are ace, I fitted my first one to my ZZR at about 7'000 miles, with year round riding through all the salty crap that winter could throw at it and by the time I traded it in at 19'000 miles it was still on the original chain with plenty of life left and I'd only adjusted it (very slightly) 2 or 3 times.

They can be a pain to fit, but ok if you take your time to get it right and you need to experiment (hit and miss stylee) with the flow setting a bit until you get the right level of lubrication without getting oil all over the back wheel.

When I fitted one to my VFR I wasn't too sure which vacuum pipe to attach it to so rung the helpline. They posted me a colour picture identifying the correct pipe to use and the single sided swingarm adaptor, all free of charge. Great product, great service. Got one to fit to the '12R in the shed so might be calling on their services again soon.

How is the new bike, got it yet?

If you're too lazy or forgetful (like me) to clean & lube your chain regularly then a Scottoiler is brilliant. I have one on my bike and although it was a bit fiddly to fit keeps the chain in great shape. Before I mainly used spray-on lube because it's easy to use but it flings everywhere and the stickier ones (that fling less) collect all the grit and then that acts like a grinding paste on your chain.

My bikes first chain lasted about 10/11,000 miles and was badly worn with a bad tightspot, I fitted a Scottoiler then changed the chain and my current one has done about 8/9,000 miles and still looks like new, with no tightspots. I get a bit of mess on my wheel etc but it's oil not sticky lube and it wipes off easily but the best thing with a Scottoiler is that it cleans as well as lubing. I suppose if you did your chain every couple of days you might get similar results but that's way too much bother.

I started with the standard Scottoiler but it only lubes one side of the chain so you need a higher than optimum flow to properly lube so you get more fling, now I have the 'Dual injector' which lubes both sides of the chain/sprocket, so I can set the flow rate lower and still get a good lubing.

The dual injector was a very tight fit and I did have one 'eaten' by the rear sprocket when it was a bit too close to the chain but it's made of plastic and didn't harm the bike, so I've now repositioned it slightly further away from the chain.

Initially I had problems with too much oil flow due to having mounted the oil bottle under my seat and just above the exhaust heatshield (oil flow is greatly affected by temperature) but I now use the High Temp oil which is thicker and flows much slower until it's warm, the advantage is that regardless of outside temperature the underseat temp remains fairly high (consistent?) so the flow doesn't really vary very much - That said I've got the flow set to less than 1 (on a scale of 0-6 or 0-8?). Other than the injector my Scottoiler is completely invisible.

Highly Recommended

as for chain lubes, pretty much anything listed as "lube" is fine. I use a "titanium gel" but it was a promo, I dont think its any better than the rest.

scottoilers are very good and the only decision is how long you plan to keep the bike to justify the expense. A tin of lube will last all year for my odd weekend blip for £7, so in 4 years Ive spent £28. which wouldnt even pay for the oiler.
(mind you, im on my 3-4th chain))

Thanks guys

Bike is arriving Thursday pm, all ready for the weekend. Well excepting that its my turn for the kids this weekend. But on own for the Monday [a day of sunshine and dryness wanted please!!!]

Have decided that I would have a quote for the version 7 scottoiler fitted by the supplier/shop. Got quotes from £115 to £175!! but seems their the best option especially seeings the girlfriends CBR 600F is a pig to keep oiled
