I'm going to be pootling around on my scooter (Honda 125) soon, mainly local commuting; but need to buy a crash helmet; it's been years since I was on a bike and had to buy a helmet. One of those open face, but with chin guard/drop down covers would suit me best; but what do you 'proper bikers' think of them?, also can anyone recommend a good make or two?, Mid range price...

Open face is tempting, especially in the warmer weather, but full face gives more protection.

You don't have to pay a fortune, just make sure it's a good fit and comfie.

Try wearing your choice in the shop for 10 minutes before you buy it. It may become uncomfortable after a few minutes and if you don't try it, you'll have aleady bought it and you'll be too late to swop it.

Buy and wear what fit you the best. If it fits and is of proper standard its right for you.

Not good going for something stylish andfinding its sod all use when it matters.

As for an open face helmet, I'd never, ever wear one. I've seen two turn forwards and roll off the wearers head in accidents before, very luckily without injury, but frankly I'd prefer something at least trying to protect my face and chin.

Best place for a helmet is a bike show, they usualy have last year's models at cheap prices. Just try on loads before you decide on one and go with someone who knows how they're suppoed to fit too.

If you are looking at an open face helmet try the Roof range, they fit very well and are not too expensive, other than that go with most of the replies to this one, whatever fits well, has the right BS and SNELL standards will do the job just fine.
I wear a KBC which I find is as good as any other helmet I have owned.
