Now what is the difference and why are new bikes having upside-down forks.

USD forks are stiffer due to the fatter part of the fork being in the yolks...better rigidity around the front end...and look cool!

this is a thing that keep going around, when i was motorcrossing everyone was ditching usd forks for marzoki RWU forks then suzuki started using RWU forks then evenone used USD forks again and it keeps going on and on. I've never noticed a diffrence apart from RWU forks tend to have long over hangs under the axle doesn't make any diffrence on a road bike though

When you crash it, RWU forks tend to bend the fork legs just below the yokes. When you crash with USD forks, sometimes the forces which might just have bent the forks on the RWU forked bike can bend the yokes.

The whole idea of USD forks is not for coolness or accident damage - it's to reduce the unsprung weight of the bike and make the suspension more efficient.

The lighter part of the fork moving with the wheel and this reduces the inertia of the wheel/suspension assembly.

Carrera, are you sure?

With RWU forks the relativly short alloy sliders are unsprung were as on USD forks the long heavy steel sliders are unsprung. I thought was extra stifness, reduced stiction and ultimalty for road use fashion.
I could be wrong and I don't doubt the benefits but I doubt unsprung weight is one.

Stiffness is an added benefit to them as well but the primary reason is to reduce unsprung weight.
