I posted in here a while back about my other half getting a 50cc twist and go for a couple of town miles to work and back daily..
She got in touch with a rider training centre locally, and they said:

£125 all in [they provide all but the helmets]
It lasts from 8.30 am until 4.00 pm
It only lasts 2 years and you have to wear 'L' plates after....
The 'real' test is another £58...?

What do you reckon ??

CBT is a 2 year thing, only when you pass your full licence you dont need to repeat it, and also get to ride without plates.
So yes, they are right, with CBT you still need L plates and repeat every 2 years.
Right...
Does the CBT lead on to the test [is there a 'twist and go' test] or is it just a good idea for readyness to ride?
The CBT is the first step to getting on a bike and as it says is Compulsory.
There was a time i think where if you had a car licence you could ride a moped without a CBT but still show 'L' plates, i'm not sure on it as i still had to do my CBT after holding my car licence for 14 years.
You can then go onto either doing the first stage test which allows you to ride upto 33bhp(?) without plates for 2 years before going up to unrestricted, or do what i did and direct access so you can ride ANY bike. Only then can you ride without plates and no repeat of the CBT.

Full car licence holders riding mopeds
From 1 February 2001, a person passing a car driving test will be required to undertake a moped riding course before they can ride a moped on the road. A code number 122 is printed on the driving licence. This is only valid after a driver has successfully completed a basic moped training course.
Persons who already hold a full car licence, or who passed a car test before 1 February 2001, are not required to take training before riding a moped. But they are encouraged to do so.
This would seem to suggest we don't need to....
But I think it's a good idea though.

To be honest, I'd be wary of a hired helmet, especially if its been in a hire environment, and subject to the numerous careless drops bumps and bangs that they are subject to.
Only one head, and if its only worth £50 to you....
Disagree - I remember back to my lessons and everyone was issued with helmets that were in good condition and we were told how to look after them etc.
The other point to remember is that on a CBT you'll do 30mph maximum - cyclists do more than that with a thin band of foam over their heads!
