I've had my Arai lid for five years since new.
Had no problems with it. Fits perfectly. No dents or scratches. I've done about 20k+ miles.
We've all read about changing your lid every few years or so.
What do you reckon? Is it the manufacturers hype or common sense?
Yeah, I wonder about that too...
I have a Suomy Gunwind 'Scott Russell' rep which I've done about 20K in over 2 years, but I bought it at an Ally Pally show about 3 years ago, so I think it must be knocking on abit as I don't remember seeing any SR reps on the Suomy web site in all that time.
if you look inside the lining it will have a manufacture date on a label .
Arai say 5 years from first use or 7 years from the date of manufacture (max).
If you have a cheap helmet, perhaps a bit less?
I think polycarbonate helmets have a 3 year life as the shell degrades slightly with sunlight.
Polycarbonate helmets tend to be at the cheaper end if the market and are often identifiable by the manufacturing “seam” that runs along the middle of the outer shell.
