.....according to my speedo which is clearly knackered.

It was fine when I put the bike away on Friday but as soon as I started it up this morning it showed 97, then 186, then 130 and it kept flashing up a different speed every second even though it was still in neutral on its stand. Once out on the road it calmed down a bit but every few minutes went a bit mental again and started flashing up random speeds.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? It's an SV650s with digital speedo readout. Presumably there is a loose sensor somewhere but I'm not sure where the pick-up is. Is it off the gearbox somewhere? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm sure the pick up is in the gearbox, could be a loose connection or damp?
Wish mine would do 186

I'd check www.sv650.org for a similar problem to yours.

Cheers,

Steve.

Thanks for that.

Had a quick look on sv650.org and there is an absolute mine of info. Seems as though the sensor is actually on the front wheel so I'll have a look at that tonight and also spend some serious time trawling through the other site for more advice.

I once had a Fiat Tempra Diesel estate with fully electronic instruments. Apparently I could reach just over 200 mph and Leicester to Liverpool was 13 miles. Then it got worse and went metric on me. Oh well...

186MPH ot of an SV650 im very impressed
it could be a common fault with them im not sure, if it is it may be easier to find a new set of clocks from a breakers rather than trying to figure out whats wrong with them.

The bike is just over 2 years old so I hope it's not a case of needing new clocks.

The sensor looks like it could be in a position to pick up moisture easily and as it has just been sitting still since Friday and we've had really crappy weather an electrical fault seems the most likely.

Time to dig out the WD40....
