I had one for a while. Lovely bike but be prepared to drop it a few times until you get used to the controls....
If it is a WLC then it is a Canadian Army spec bike. WLA is US Army whilst the WL is a civilain version.
If you want more details, drop me a pm. I think I still have a few books which might help. I sold the bike a while ago but still hold fond memories and bruises to my shins...

To tell if its a WL, you could ask for the crankcase numbers. They didnt have frame numbers. The crankcase numbers should have a WL not WLA or WLC on them. Make sure they match.
Other differences are the mudguards and clocks differ. To be honest, I would be more worried that its all there and working rather than what model it is. As these bikes are 60 years old, they have been bashed around and had parts changed over. Mine was a frame and 8 boxes of bits and I finally sold it for £7500.
I found that most parts can be bought anyway. Most of my stuff came from the Netherlands.

Looking at Ebay, the blue and cream one is an army bike converted with what looks like a lot of repro parts from 45 Depot. The red and black one is definately an Army bike due to the mudguards. Paintwork has been changed a while ago but looks a good honest bike. The red and cream one is again a civilianised bike and has a very over the top newsoration done.
To me, I would go for the black and red and then modify to my tastes knowing that I may drop it whilst getting use to riding it. The foot clutch and hand gear change takes a bit of getting use to as does the advance an retard on the left twist grip.
Alternatively, log on to www.hdrcgb.co.uk and put a post for the attention of Roger in the Vintage section. What he doesnt know about WL's is not worth knowing. There may even be something in the classifieds.
I will drop you some info if I can find it.
