A nice choice

new 2006 zx6r or mint used (9000miles) 2001 sp-1(with full Ti 2 into 1 arrows exhaust and Power Commander)

just your feelings, that's all! I'm coming of a zxr400, which I have really enjoyed - no problems keeping up with bigger bikes at the TT on the little zxr.

Has to be the kwack , stick a race can on the 6R and it howls pops farts and bangs and sings , allways loved kwacks for the noise , Hondas have allways seemed dull and the sp-1 drinks fuel like a pisshead at a free bar .

i would probably say the ZX6R although 9000 miles seems a lot for it to have done already, the SP1 is meant to be a great bike but its a little dated no and i belive the SP2 had a fair amount of needed updates.

I think you need to learn how to read!!!!

Anyway, two different bikes. I have a Firestorm so i have to say the SP-1 as i love twins, but be aware that the Sp-1 is notoriously uncomfy, hard suspension and racy riding position.

If it was my money and i wasn’t a twin fan i would probably go for the zx-6, simply because it’s new, warranty, 0% finance. The bike looks great, and is plenty quick.

The SP-1 with the exhaust will sound stunning.

Ahh bugger it go for the SP-1

Go for a twin its a bit odd at first but you will get used to it i have 2 dukes and except for the v4 wont change. one other option is the rsv very good and cheep my mate went from a rsv to a r1 and was never out on it allways making excuses then chops it in for turono loves it he couldnt get used to a screeming 4 again.

I'd want to ride them both (I would also try some of the other 600's)

I have always been a bit suspicious of the SP1, I remember people who bought them new -throwing silly money at aftermarket bits, to try and get them to work properly.
Snatchy fueling and a tuck prone front end were the most common complaints.

The "kit" bikes never went well on the race track either (although the works bikes did!)

The thing is; you might love em! (plenty people do) so you got to try them both and decide for yourself

Thanks for all the comments

I rode examples of both this morning at D&K. The zx6r is rapid, but it feels (madly enough) like a quicker version of my ancient zxr400.

I was really surprised with the SP-1, it felt about as quick as quick as the zx6r ultimately, and surprisingly just as modern(the example tested has 13,000miles). The way the SP-1 launched forward at pretty much any revs was fantastic, super responsive.

zxr400-soft elastic band throttle response
zx6r-like above, just a stiffer elastic band
SP-1, completely different, just stomps!

Life is to short to stick to one style of bike, so I am going for the SP-1. I thought it was really easy to ride, it steered sharp and felt very controlled. It was not as easy as the zx6r, but super fun!

I've had a ZX12R(i know not the same as ZX6)and i've had an SP1.The Sp1 is one of the best handling bikes i've ever had(standard)very smooth for a V twin.Feels awkward when you first sit on it but you get used to it very quickly.SP1 great looking bike too,a few Honda trick parts on it standard(Hence £10,000 when they first came out)I got myself into some really near off's on the SP1 but it always got me out of them!

If you go for SP1 find out all petrol stations on way to wherever you are going thought my griffth was bad on fuel, when i go out with my mate on his turono its the same about £4 per tank and his light is on.you will be looking at 80 to 100 to the light otherwise great bike. I know of one person who is getting 48mpg out of his SP1 but i think its on 1 cylinder (joke) or his brakes are on all the time.

I think you’ve made a wise move. The “stomp” of a large V-twin can be very addictive and (for me) always gives access to much more real world road performance.

I hope you and your SP1 have many happy miles together.

Thanks!

Looking forward to it! Buy it for £4k and put big miles on it, with a stupid big smile on my face.
