Guys, I have been riding for about a year and a half now and have yet to venture out onto the track. I ride an 04 ZX6R (636) and feel reasonably competent on the road (can get my knee down) and don't scare myslef (well not that often) :-)

I would like to do a novice track day where I am not going to get swamped by mega quick riders and where I can build speed slowly whilst getting some 1 on 1 instruction. I did the Nurburgring earlier this year and frankly it scared me sensless!!!!! Does anyone have any recommendations???????

Cheers

I did my first in February, at Silverstone GP track - fantastic circuit and the bends are nice and well sighted. I'd recommend it.

Most track days are divided into groups, so if you went for the novice group you're more likely to feel comfortable without being intimidated by significantly faster riders buzzing you. You can also get instruction at most days which would help you to learn the lines as well as build up your own confidence. My first track day was at Donington which I suppose could be quite intimidating, but it's pretty wide so there's lots of room for faster riders to get past without you feeling you're in their way. Take your mirrors off (so you're not worrying about bikes coming up behind you), start off gently, ride well within your comfort zone and I'm sure you'll have a great time whichever track you use. Good luck and have fun!

Cheers guys. I am London based.

I was actually looking at doing something like an Academy Day so as to get some proper tuition. What companies would you recommend?

Cheers

HotTrax do academy days. I'm tempted by one on Friday.

California Superbike School are meant to be excellent (albeit not really a track day).

Motorsportvision do 'Novice only' evenings at certain places.

Check out Rapid Training. They do Track based training and road skills days. There are none better.

One of the instructors is Surrey based so you don't need to travel too far, although you have various options like go up and enjoy the Cotswolds for a blast. The surrey chap (JT) also happens to be one of the instructors from the old Yamaha Nurburgring training school.

I think the tracks are booked up. Go on a road day with 2:1 ratio (take a mate or Gary will pair you up with someone).

Do it. Now.

I wouldnt choose castle coombe if you get the option, its known for lack of traction and bumps, topped off by poor track management of bad riders.

Rockingham is relatively close to you, and good for learning.
just go novice group and you will be fine, but it sounds like you could suprise yourself that you need to be inters if you knee down already.

I have done track days and I try to ask the instructors advice when ever possible and i am booked in for an academy day on July 9th at silverstone which is mean't to have 1 instrutor / 7 riders with classroom lessons inbetween sessions .And it doesn't cost much more than a normal track day
