Hi Lads & Laydeees!

I was reading through todays MCN and noticed in an article about Visors that you can now get 3 points and £60 fine for a Dark or Iridium Visor..

Strewth i though!!
During the day that kind of punishment sounds err bonkers!

Has anyone here felt the full penalty of law for one of these Visors? (as in 3 points!)

It really is a bit silly isn't it. I mean you can wear sunglasses as dark as you like under the visor and nobody will say a thing but wear a dark visor and you are some big evil baddie.
I'm going to be getting a dark visor for the summer but if I go out for more than just a quick ride I'll take my clear one with me just in case I end up out in the dark. I think that's sensible enough and hopefully most BiB would think so too.

I think they should up the maximum points from 12 to about 1000 cause at this rate if i accidentally blink with my left eye before the right i'll probably get 9 points for that!

I think i'll pop my clear visor under the seat

Yep I take my clear with me if i'm wearing the irridium.

Also, it's illegal to use a dark or irridium visor but it is legal to not use a visor at all ??? ....the law is an ass

Same as everyone else, if I'm wearing my dark visor, the clear one is under the seat. I think if I was stopped solely for the dark visor thing, I'd take it to court and try set precedent. Prescription sunglasses under a clear visor are not only a lot more expensive but I find it distorts the view more than clear glasses under a dark visor.

Too bloody right. I feel exactly the same way. I'd be livid if I was stopped for this in bright conditions.

I don't know if it is a standard issue up there but my mamouth ride up to John-O-Groats, I saw at least 4 motorcycle policeman with dark visors on. All nodded as I went past with my dark visor on.

I have a Caberg helmet, which has a normal clear visor, but also has a dark inner visor which can be raised or lowered via a little lever on the side.

Looks very top gun !!

Is this true about points? if so it's crap but it won't stop me wearing one when I need it, what about the danger when the sun's straight in your eyes, especially if your eyes are particularly sensitive to bright light? - like mine.

I fear the day to remove the number plate and 'not get stopped' is getting closer - a sad state of affairs.........

I got fed up with riding along and only being able to see a reflection of my nose against the visor so now I've got the dark Shoei pinlock thing in my visor, comes out in a few seconds.

I wonder that too - can't be arsed going out and buying MCN but last time I checked it was non-endorseable.

From the Office of Public Sector Information website:
"At present the police can deal with this offence either by an oral warning or prosecution; the availability of a fixed penalty notice will provide greater flexibility of response. In the most serious cases the police will still be able to prosecute because of the serious risks posed to other road users as well as to the offending motorcyclist. This is a non-endorsable offence for which offenders issued with a fixed penalty notice will pay a fine of £30."

I wonder whether this a case of MCN (yet again) hyping something up without there actually having been a change in the law? I suspect we all accept you deserve to get the book thrown at you riding with a black visor in the dark but on sunny days I can't see the problem.

It does seem that most cops feel they have better things to do than enforce this particular law, but while I'm happy to risk a £30 fine the thought of getting points on my licence for it is a different ball game.

Yoof in Fowlers: "That'll be £49.99 please."

MAM's jaw: "Thud".

Yup, he sighed. Been there last weekend as mine is a little scratched, so I thought I'd replace it before Le Mans. They showed me the AGV smoked visor, which must have been done with Silk Cut Ultra Lights, as I really couldnt tell the difference between that and the clear. £45 for either, so the new one is on the shelf, and may well stay there until the old one is actually properly scratched

Try www.racevisors.co.uk/index.cfm/view_id/4/details/true/code/V-ARA-LTY £35 for clear or dark - Iridium are over £50 though.
